Special Stitches

Three-needle bind off: Work this bind off technique with three needles and working yarn.

Arrange the two pieces with right sides facing together and working yarn on the edge you will be working from. Insert the right-hand needle through the first st on the front needle and the first st on the back needle, at the same time. Knit these stitches together. Step 1: Insert the right-hand needle through the next st on the front needle and the next st on the back needle. K2tog, slipping both off the left-hand needles. Two sts are now on the right-hand needle. Step 2: Use your fingers, or one of the left-hand needle tips, to lift the first st on the right-hand needle over the second st and drop it off the needle. One st has been bound off and one st remains on the right-hand needle.

Rep steps 1 and 2 until all the stitches on both needles have been bound off. One stitch remains on the right-hand needle. Break the working yarn, and draw the end through the final live stitch, tightening it up.

Pattern Notes

An adult sized t-shirt, knit in pieces and joined at the shoulders with a three-needle bind off. The sides are then seamed together using mattress stitch and leaving a split hem. Moss st borders the neck opening as well as the hem and sleeves, which are worked in the round after the sides are seamed together. After the t-shirt is finished, appliquéd circles and embroidery add the final touches.
