Needles: US 4 (3.5 mm) 32” circular, US 4 (3.5 mm) 16” circular, US 4 (3.5 mm) set of double pointed needles

Notions: 2 markers, stitch holders, tapestry needle, three 0.75” buttons

Special Stitches

Garter ribbing (in the round)

Rnd 1: Knit.

Rnd 2: [K2, p2] to end.

Garter ribbing (back and forth)

Row 1 (RS): Knit.

Row 2 (WS): [P2, k2] to end.

Pattern

Body

CO 212 (228, 252, 276, 300, 324, 348, 372) sts. Join to work in the rnd. Be careful not to twist sts. Place a marker to determine beginning of the rnd.

Rnd 1: *K2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rep rnd 1 until a height of 2” from cast-on edge is reached.

Next Rnd: K106 (114, 126, 138, 150, 162, 174, 186), PM, k to end.

Then start working in garter ribbing beginning with Rnd 2 of stitch pattern until the sweater measures 14 (14, 14, 14.5, 14.5, 14.5, 15, 15)” from cast-on edge, ending with a Rnd 2 of stitch pattern.

Next Row: CO 5 sts using cable cast-on method, k to marker, remove marker and place remaining sts on hold.

Next Row (WS): CO 5 sts using cable cast-on method, k1, work to 1 sts before end in garter ribbing, being careful to maintain stitch pattern, k1.

There are now 116 (124, 136, 148, 160, 172, 184, 196) sts on the needles.

Work in stitch pattern until a height of 7 (7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5)” after underarm cast-on is reached, ending with a WS row.

Back Neck Shaping

Row 1 (RS): K48 (52, 58, 64, 69, 75, 80, 86), join new ball of yarn, BO 20 (20, 20, 20, 22, 22, 24, 24) sts, k to end.

Row 2 (WS): Work 48 (52, 58, 64, 69, 75, 80, 86) as established, BO 5 (5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6), work to end.

Row 3: K to neck gap, BO 5 (5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6), k to end.

Row 4: Work to neck gap as established, BO 5 (5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6), work to end.

Row 5: Knit.

Yoke depth now measures 7.5 (8, 8.5, 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 11)”.

Place all shoulder sts on hold.

Front

Rejoin yarn with the RS of the sweater facing.

Next Row: CO 5 sts using cable cast-on method, k to end.

Next Row (WS): CO 5 sts using cable cast-on method, k1, work to 1 st before end in garter ribbing, being careful to maintain stitch pattern, k1.

There are now 116 (124, 136, 148, 160, 172, 184, 196) sts on the needles.

Work in stitch pattern until a height of 1.5 (2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5)” after underarm cast-on is reached, ending with a WS row.

Henley shaping

Row 1 (RS): K55 (59, 65, 71, 77, 83, 89, 95), join new ball of yarn, BO 6 sts, k to end.

Continue while maintaining pattern stitch until height from just bind-off sts measures 3.25”, ending with a WS row.

Row 2 (RS): K to neck gap, BO 7 (7, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9) sts, k to end.

Row 3 (WS): Work to neck gap as established, BO 7 (7, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9) sts, work to end as established.

Row 4 (RS): K to neck gap, BO 5 (5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6) sts, k to end.

Row 5 (WS): Work to neck gap as established, BO 5 (5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6) sts, work to end as established.

Row 6 (RS): K to neck gap, BO 3 sts, k to end.

Row 7 (WS): Work to neck gap as established, BO 3 sts, work to end as established.

Join shoulder stitches using three-needle bind-off. Sew underarm cast-on stitches closed.

Sleeves (make twice)

Pick up 76 (80, 88, 92, 100, 104, 108, 116) sts around the armhole. Work in pattern for 1”, ending with a round 2 of stitch pattern.

Decrease Rnd: K1, k2tog, k to 3 sts before end, ssk, k1.

Rep Decrease Rnd every 10th (10th, 10th, 8th, 8th, 8th, 8th, 8th) 11 (11, 13, 15, 15, 17, 17, 17) more times. There are now 52 (56, 60, 60, 64, 68, 72, 80) sts on the needle.

Work in stitch pattern until sleeve measures 13.5 (14, 14, 14.5, 14.5, 15, 15, 15.5)”.

Work in 2×2 ribbing over 2”. Sleeve measures 15.5 (16, 16, 16.5, 16.5, 17, 17, 17.5)”.

BO all sts.

Button band

With RS facing, beginning at the top of the left front, pick up and knit 18 sts out of the Henley opening.

Next Row (WS): Cast on 1 st using cable cast-on method. K1, [p2, k2] to 2 sts before end, p2.

Next Row (RS): Cast on 1 st using cable cast-on method. K1, [k2, p2] to 2 sts before end, k2.

Row 1: K1, [p2, k2] to 3 sts before end, p2, k1.

Row 2: K1, [k2, p2] to 3 sts before end, k3.

Rep Rows 1 and 2 three more times.

BO all sts.

Buttonhole band

With RS facing, beginning at the bottom of the right front, pick up and knit 18 sts out of the Henley opening.

Next Row (WS): Cast on 1 st using cable cast-on method. K1, [p2, k2] to 2 sts before end, p2.

Next Row (RS): Cast on 1 st using cable cast-on method. K1, [k2, p2] to 2 sts before end, k2.

Row 1 and 3 (WS): K1, [p2, k2] to 3 sts before end, p2, k1.

Row 2 (RS): K1, [k2, p2] to 3 sts before end, k3.

Row 4 (RS): K3, p2tog, [yo]2x, k2tog, p2, k2, p2tog, [yo]2x, k2tog, p2, k3.

Rep Rows 1 and 2 two more times.

BO all sts.

With buttonhole band on top, sew bottom of buttonband and buttonhole band together. Then sew this combination to the sweater, where 6 sts have been bound off.

Neckband

With RS facing, beginning at the top of the buttonhole band, pick up and knit 104 (104, 108, 112, 116, 116, 120, 120) sts out of the neckline and the top of the button band.

Row 1 and 3 (WS): P3, [k2, p2] to 5 sts before end, k2, p3.

Row 2 (RS): K3, [p2, k2] to 5 sts before end, p2, k3.

Row 4 (RS): K3, p2tog, [yo] 2x, k2tog, [p2, k2] to 5 sts before end, p2, k3.

Rep Rows 1 and 2 two more times

BO all sts.

Finishing

Weave in all ends.

Wash and block sweater to finished measurements.

Sew buttons onto button band.
