Haven Colorblock Pullover

This pullover is a summer staple, made with blocks of neutral colors that pair beautifully with just the right amount of lace. Knit with 100 percent pima cotton yarn, this loose-fitting, textured top offers an effortless drape for easy wear on a warm day.

2-4” positive ease recommended.

Shown size is 38”

Gauge: 21 sts and 30 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st, in the round, after wet blocking.

Materials

Yarn: Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima (100% pima cotton, 220 yards [201 meters]/100 grams): 3828 Sandstone (C1, 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4) balls), 3718 Natural (C2, 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4) balls), 3719 Buff (C3, 1(1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3) balls).

Needles: US size 3 (3.25 mm) 24” or longer circular needles, and a set of DPNs.

Notions: Stitch marker, spare needle, tapestry needle, tape measure.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is knit bottom-up, starting with the split hem that is knit flat and joined to work the body in the round to the underarms. Front and back and worked flat, shaping the V-neck. After joining the shoulder seams, sleeves are picked up and knit down, in the round. DPNs are used for knitting the sleeves. The color-block pattern is knit in a simple Stockinette stitch, with Texture Lace pattern used for the Natural (C2) color sections.

Textured Lace Pattern (in the rnd):

Rnd 1: *K2, k2tog, yo; rep from* around.

Rnd 2: Purl.

Rnd 3: *K1, k2tog, yo, k1; rep from* around.

Rnd 4: Purl.

Rep these 4 rnds for Textured Lace Pattern in the rnd.

Textured Lace Pattern (flat):

Row 1: *K2, k2tog, yo; rep from * across to last 4 sts, k4.

Row 2: Knit.

Row 3: *K1, k2tog, yo, k1; rep from* across.

Row 4: Knit.

Rep these 4 rows for Textured Lace Pattern flat.

Pattern

Front Hem

With C1, using a Long-tail CO and holding the 2 needle tips together, CO 98 (110, 122, 130, 142, 154, 166, 174) sts. Pull one of the needle tips out, leaving all of the sts on the main needle (this will create a more flexible CO, necessary for working with cotton yarn) Begin working a 2×2 rib, with 1 selvage st as follows:

Row 1 (RS): Sl 1, k1, *p2, k2; rep from * to end.

Row 2 (WS): Sl 1, p1, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

Rep these 2 rows until the hem measures 2”, ending with WS row. Transfer sts to a spare needle.

Back Hem

Work as for Front Hem.

Join hems

With RS facing, work the following Dec row first across the Back Hem sts, add the held Front Hem sts and work Dec row once more across the Front Hem sts:

Dec row (RS): With RS facing, [*k12 (8, 10, 10, 12, 8, 14, 10), k2tog; rep from * across Back Hem sts to last 14 (10, 2, 10, 2, 14, 6, 6) back hem sts, k14 (10, 2, 10, 2, 14, 6, 6)], then rep { } once more across Front Hem sts. (184 (200, 224, 240, 264, 280, 312, 320) body sts)

PM for beg of rnd and join to work in the rnd.

Body

Work in Stockinette st in the rnd until piece measures 5 (5, 5.25, 5.5, 5.75, 6, 6, 6.25)” from CO edge.

Change to C2, and knit 1 rnd. Begin working Textured Lace Pattern in the rnd. Work until C2 section measures 4 (4, 4.25, 4.5, 4.75, 5, 5, 5.25)”.

Change to C3, and resume working in Stockinette st until C3 section measures 4 (4, 4.25, 4.5, 4.75, 5, 5, 5.25)”.

Divide for Front and Back

Knit 92 (100, 112, 120, 132, 140, 156, 160) sts, place rem sts on a spare needle. Turn.

Back

Cont with C3, working flat in Stockinette st (knit on RS, purl on WS) until C3 section measures 5 (5, 5.25, 5.5, 5.75, 6, 6, 6.25)”, ending with a WS row.

Change to C2, and knit 2 rows. With RS facing, begin working flat in Textured Lace Pattern. Work until C2 section measures 4 (4, 4.25, 4.5, 4.75, 5, 5, 5.25)”.

Change to C1, resume working in Stockinette st until armhole measures 7 (7.5, 8, 8.5, 8.75, 9, 9.25, 9.5)” from armhole split, ending with WS row.

Divide for Shoulders and Neck

Next row (RS): K30 (33, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56) sts (Right shoulder), BO 32 (34, 40, 40, 44, 44, 52, 48) sts (Back Neck), k30 (33, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56) sts (Left Shoulder), turn.

Shape Left Shoulder

Row 1 (WS): Purl to last 2 sts, p2tog, (1 st decreased)

Row 2 (RS): K2tog, knit across, (1 st decreased)

Rows 3-4: Rep Rows 1-2 once more. (26 (29, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52) sts) Transfer sts to a spare needle.

Shape Right Shoulder

With WS facing, attach yarn at the base of the neck and start working Right Shoulder as follows:

Row 1 (WS): P2tog, purl across. (1 st decreased)

Row 2 (RS): Knit to last 2 sts, ssk, (1 st decreased)

Rows 3-4: Rep Rowa 1-2 once more. (26 (29, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52) sts) Transfer sts to a spare needle.

Front

Transfer Front sts to needle.

With RS facing, join C3 at the armhole.

Set-up row (RS): K46 (50, 56, 60, 66, 70, 78, 80) sts, pm, knit to end.

Next row: Purl.

Cont with C3, working flat in Stockinette st until C3 section measures 5 (5, 5.25, 5.5, 5.75, 6, 6, 6.25)”, ending with a WS row.

Change to C2, and knit 2 rows. With RS facing, begin working flat in Textured Lace Pattern. Work until C2 section measures 1”, ending with a WS row.

Begin shaping V-neck, while staying in pattern.

Shape Left Front

Row 1 (RS): Work in pattern to 2 sts before m, ssk, turn. (45 (49, 55, 59, 65, 69, 77, 79) sts)

Transfer rem sts for Right Front to a spare needle.

Row 2 (WS): Purl.

Row 3: Work in pattern to last 2 sts, ssk, turn. (1 st decreased)

Rep last 2 rows 18 (19, 22, 22, 24, 24, 28, 26) more times, changing to C1 and Stockinette st, after C2 section measures 4 (4, 4.25, 4.5, 4.75, 5, 5, 5.25)”. (26 (29, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52) shoulder sts after all decreases have been completed)

Knit even until armhole height is the same as for Back. Transfer sts to a spare needle.

Shape Right Front

With RS facing, return Right Front sts to needle and join C2 at V-neck.

Row 1 (RS): K2tog, work in pattern across. (1 st decreased)

Row 2 (WS): Purl.

Rep these 2 rows 19 (20, 23, 23, 25, 25, 29, 27) more times, changing to C1 and Stockinette st, after C2 section measures 4 (4, 4.25, 4.5, 4.75, 5, 5, 5.25)”. (26 (29, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52) sts after all decreases have been completed)

Knit even until armhole height is the same as for Back.

Seam Shoulders

With RS facing, join Right Front and Right Back Shoulder using a 3-Needle Bind Off method. Rep for Left Shoulder.

Sleeves

With RS facing and C3, using DPNs, starting at the underarm, pick up and knit 56 (60, 64, 68, 68, 72, 72, 76) sts evenly around the armhole. (56 (60, 64, 68, 68, 72, 72, 76) sts)

PM for beg of rnd.

Work in Stockinette st in the rnd until C3 section measures 2”.

Change to C2, and knit 1 rnd. Begin working Textured Lace Pattern in the rnd. Work until C2 section measures 4 (4, 4.25, 4.5, 4.75, 5, 5, 5.25)”.

Change to C3, and resume working in Stockinette st until sleeve measures 8 (9, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 13)”.

Inc rnd: Inc 4 (4, 4, 4, 8, 8, 8, 8) sts evenly around. (60 (64, 68, 72, 76, 80, 80, 84) sts)

Work in 2×2 rib pattern (k2, p2) for 2”. BO in pattern loosely.

Finishing

I-Cord V-neck Edging

With 2 DPNs and C2, CO 2 sts. With WS of the garment facing, staring in the middle of Back Neck, PU 1 st with the same needle as the 2 CO sts. Slide sts to the opposite tip of the needle.

Row 1: K1, k2tog, PU 1 st, slide sts to the opposite tip.

Rep Row 1 around neck opening.

Graft the ends of the I-cord at the Back Neck.

Weave in ends and steam block with hot iron to even out the stitches and open up the lace.
