Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to last st, k1.

Trellis Leaf Pattern (worked over a multiple of 12 sts + 1 + 4 sts for edges)

Row 1 and all odd numbered rows (WS): K2, purl to last 2 sts, k2.

Rows 2, 4, and 6: K2, k2tog, *k2, yo, ssk, yo, k1, yo, k2tog, yo, k2, sk2p; rep from * to last 4 sts, ssk, k2.

Row 8: K2, k2tog, *k1, yo, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, yo, k1, sk2p; rep from * to last 4 sts, ssk, k2.

Row 10: K2, k2tog, *yo, k2tog, yo, k5, yo, ssk, yo, sk2p; rep from * to last 4 sts, ssk, k2.

Rows 12, 14, and 16: K3, *yo, k2tog, yo, k2, sk2p, k2, yo, ssk, yo, k1; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.

Pattern Notes

This pattern starts with the edging. Stitches are picked up at the straight edge of the edging and worked in a lace pattern. The keyhole is on the other end and is worked in k1, p1 ribbing.

With larger needle, CO 13 sts.

Rows 1-4: Knit.

Row 5 and all odd numbered rows (WS): K2, purl to last 2 sts, k2.

Row 6 (RS): Sl1, k3, yo, k5, yo, k2tog, yo, k2 – 15 sts.

Row 8: Sl1, k4, sk2p, k2, (yo, k2tog) twice, k1 – 13 sts.

Row 10: Sl1, k3, ssk, k2, (yo, k2tog) twice, k1 – 12 sts.

Row 12: Sl1, k2, ssk, k2, (yo, k2tog) twice, k1 – 11 sts.

Row 14: Sl1, k1, ssk, k2, (yo, k2tog) twice, k1 – 10 sts.

Row 16: K1, ssk, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2tog, yo, k2 – 11 sts.

Rep Rows 5-18, 12 times, then work Rows 1-4 once more.

BO all sts loosely.

Body

With RS of edging facing, pick up and knit 101 sts on the straight edge of the Wave Edging.

Work Rows 1-20 of Trellis Leaf Pattern 14 times total.

Keyhole

Change to smaller needles.

Row 1: *K2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 – 51 sts.

Work in K1, P1 Ribbing on all sts for 8″ / [20 cm].

BO all sts loosely, leaving a long tail.

Finishing

Block. Fold the bound off edge towards the beginning of ribbing.

Sew last row to first row of ribbing.

Weave in all ends.

  • I thought it looked so pretty. I have knit many lace patterns, but I think this one is very poorly written, and I give up. I am so disappointed.
