Mystic Mountains Scarf

This eye-catching, color block scarf is knit in a bias garter stitch and the result is a completely reversible accessory that is fun and meditative to make. The zigzag stitch pattern doesn’t require any complicated techniques to achieve its striking look — just the use of simple short rows, increases and decreases. Extremely versatile and easy to customize, this pattern works well with virtually any yarn, especially gradient and hand-dyed yarns, since bias garter stitch is the perfect canvas to display color variations to the greatest possible effect.

Time: Weekend Project

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 6” / [15 cm] width x 60” / [152 cm] length (excluding fringe)

Gauge: 13 sts and 24 rows = 4” [10 cm] in garter st

Materials

Yarn: Knit Picks Billow (100% Cotton; 120 yards [110 meters]/100 grams): 7255 Turmeric (MC, 2 hanks), 2412 Tea Rose (CC1, 1 hank), BO Natural (CC2, 2 hanks)

Needles: US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) 24” circular

Notions: Tapestry needle, US K/10.5 (6.5 mm) crochet hook (for attaching fringe)

Pattern Notes

The scarf is worked flat from end to end, using only one color at a time.

The yarn is held double throughout, with 2 strands of Turmeric held together as MC and 1 strand each of Tea Rose and Natural held together as CC.

A rows are always worked with MC; B rows are always worked with CC.

Always slip stitches purlwise with yarn in front unless instructed otherwise.

Knitting the scarf almost completely uses 2 hanks of Turmeric and 1 hank each of Tea Rose and Natural; it may be wise to purchase an extra hank of Turmeric and Tea Rose for insurance (or for multicolored fringe).

You mentioned a hank of natural in the KP Billow? I didn’t see that color in their selection. Is that a different
brand or a different yarn in the Knit Picks family?

Do you have to log onto a computer to view pattern charts? I use my phone but I don’t see any pattern charts or the print icon.

Hello! This pattern doesn’t have any charts, but usually pattern charts appear underneath the photos on the right hand side of the page (on mobile it will be at the very bottom of the page, also underneath the photos but you will need to scroll pretty far down since it is a more compact screen). It doesn’t look like the printer icon shows up on mobile, but if you are on an iPhone, there will be a little box with an arrow to “share” the pattern and once you scroll through those options there should be a “Print” option. Hope this helps! – Nicola, Editor
