Blocks of lace in muted jewel tones come together in this scarf that is warm and fun to twirl. Color blocking is made fun by working a lovely lace stitch throughout the entire scarf and finished off with chunky tassels.

Size: 11” / [28 cm] wide x 72” / [182 cm] long, plus tassels
Gauge: 21 sts and 28 rows = 4” [10 cm] in lace pattern
Materials
Yarn: Rowan Yarns Alpaca Soft DK (70% Merino Wool 30% Alpaca; 137 yards [125 meters]/50 grams): 215 Clover (C1, 2 balls), 222 Stone (C2, 2 balls), 217 Naples Blue (C3, 2 balls), 220 Autumn Gold (C4, 2 balls), 204 Deep Rose (C5, 2 balls)
Needles: US size 6 (4mm)
Notions: Tapestry needle, sharp scissors
Special Stitches
Lace pattern
Row 1 and all WS rows: Purl.
Row 2 (RS): [K1, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo] to last st, k1.
Row 4: [K2, yo, sl1, k2tog, psso, yo, k1] to last st, k1.
Row 6: [K1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk] to last st, k1.
Row 8: [K2tog, yo, k3, yo, sl1, k2tog, psso] across, ending last repeat with ssk.
Pattern
Using C1, CO 65 sts and work in rib as follow:
Row 1: K1, *k1, p1; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 2: K1, *p1, k1; rep from * to end.
Rep these 2 rows once more, then Row 1 once again.
Keeping 5 sts in rib as established at beg and end of each row begin lace pattern following chart or written instructions and working 40 rows in each color. When all 5 colors have been used, repeat the sequence again.
When all color blocks are complete and continue in last color.
Rib 5 sts, purl to last 5 sts, rib 5 sts.
Work 5 rows in rib. BO loosely.
Finishing
Weave in all ends.
Press the scarf lightly to open out the lace pattern.
Make 10 tassels, 2 of each color
Attach tassels to ends of scarf in order in which the colors were used.

Yo, ssk = y over needle, slip each of next 2 stitches knitwise, slip them back onto left needle and knit them together through back loops.
