Gauge: 31 sts and 42 rows = 4” [10 cm] in cable pattern

Materials

Yarn: Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima (100% Pima Cotton; 220 yards [200 meters]/100 grams): 3711 China Pink (1 ball)

Needles: US size 6 (4.0 mm) straight or circular needles

Notions: Markers, tapestry needle, cable needle.

Abbreviations

2/2 RC: Slip 2 stitches to cable needle (cn), hold in back, k2, k2 from cn.

4/4 RC:  Slip 4 stitches to cable needle (cn), hold in back, k4, k4 from cn.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in two flat pieces then seamed at the top and bottom, leaving gaps on either side for the handle and spout.

If you have difficulty keeping track of the pattern on the wrong side (even numbered) rows, it may help you to place a marker each time you switch from knitting to purling and vice versa on Row 2.

Row 5: Knit

Row 7: K12, (2/2 RC, k4) twice, k8, (k4, 2/2 RC) twice, k12.

Row 8: K12, (p4, k4) twice, k8, (k4, p4) twice, k12.

Work these 8 rows 8 times total.

Decrease Section

Row 1: (K2, k2tog) 3 times, (k6, k2tog) twice, k8, (ssk, k6) twice, (ssk, k2) 3 times. (54 sts)

Row 2: K9, (p4, k3) twice, p8, (k3, p4) twice, k9.

Row 3: (K1, k2tog) 3 times, (2/2 RC, k1, k2tog) twice, 4/4 RC, (ssk, k1, 2/2 RC) twice, (ssk, k1) 3 times. (44 sts)

Row 4: K6, (p4, k2) twice, p8, (k2, p4) twice, k6.

Row 5: K2tog 3 times, (ssk, k2tog twice) twice, ssk twice, k2tog twice (ssk, k2tog twice) twice, ssk 3 times. (22 sts)

Row 6: K3, (p2, k1) twice, p4, (k1, p2) twice, k3.

Row 7: K3tog, (ssk, k1) twice, ssk, k2tog (k1, k2tog) twice, sssk. (12 sts)

Break yarn, leaving a 12” tail, draw through remaining sts.

Make a second side, the same as the first.

Finishing

Using the yarn tails, sew seams 1” from the bottom and 1.5” from the top, the location of the seams is shown in pink on the diagram.  A hole will naturally form at the top, this is an opening for the lid of the teapot.
