Raspberry Sorbet Dress

Perfect for a hot summer’s day, the Raspberry Sorbet Dress is light and airy. The dress can easily be turned into a little summer top by knitting a shorter skirt.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 3 months (6 mths, 12 mths, 18 mths, 2 yrs, 3 yrs, 4 yrs); Actual chest measurement: 16 (17, 18, 19, 21, 22.5, 23)”; Shown in age 12 months

Gauge: 19 sts = 4” in skirt lace pattern using larger needles; 18 sts = 4” in bodice seed stitch using smaller needles

Materials

Yarn: Garnstudio Drops Paris (100% cotton; 82 yards [75 meters]/50 grams): #38 Raspberry (3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5) balls)
Needles: US size 4 (3.5 mm) and US size 7 (4.5 mm) circular needles, or sizes needed to obtain gauge

Abbreviations

Sk2P: Slip 1 stitch, K2tog, pass slipped stitch over. (2sts decreased)

Pattern Notes

This dress is worked in the round from the bottom up as far as the armholes, then the back and front are worked back and forth separately. 

 

Pattern

Skirt

Using larger needles CO 108 (114, 120, 126, 138, 150, 156) sts and join to work in the round being careful not to twist.
Rnd 1: K all sts.
Rnd 2: *Yo, k1, sk2p, k1, yo, k1, repeat from * to end.
Repeat rounds 1 & 2 until work measures 9.5 (10, 11, 11.5, 12, 12, 13)” ending on round 2.

Bodice

Change to smaller needles.
Decrease Rnd: *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to end. (72 (76, 80, 84, 92, 100, 104) sts)
Next Rnd: *K1, p1, repeat from * to end.
Next Rnd: *P1, k1, repeat from * to end.
These two rounds set up the seed stitch for the bodice, repeats these two rounds until bodice measures 1 (1, 1.5, 1.75, 2, 2, 2.25)”

Split for Back and Front – Back

Next Rnd: BO 5 (5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6) sts, work in seed stitch for 31 (33, 35, 37, 41, 45, 47) sts, turn.
Place remaining 36 (38, 40, 42, 46, 50, 52) sts on to waste yarn for the front.
Next Row: BO 5 (5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6) sts, work in seed stitch to end. (26 (28, 30, 32, 34, 38, 40) sts)
Working back and forth on these stitches and keeping seed stitch as set continue until work measures 0.75 (1, 1, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.25)” from the start of the armholes ending on a WS row.

Straps

Work in seed stitch across 5 (6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6) sts and place them on waste yarn for the right back strap, BO 16 (16, 18, 20, 22, 26, 28) sts, work in seed stitch to end. (5 (6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6) sts)

Left Back Strap

Keeping seed stitch as set continue until strap measures 3.5 (4, 4, 4.5, 5, 5, 5.5)” ending on a WS row.
Buttonhole Row: Work 2 sts, BO 2 sts, work 2 sts.
Next row: Work 2 sts, CO 2 sts, work 2 sts.
Work 4 more rows.
BO all sts.
With WS facing return the 5 (6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6) sts for the right strap back onto the needle and rejoin yarn. Work as for left back strap.

Front

With RS facing place the 36 (38, 40, 42, 46, 50, 52) sts back on to the needle and rejoin yarn.
Next 2 rows: BO 5 (5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6) sts, work in seed stitch to end. (26 (28, 30, 32, 34, 38, 40) sts)
Keeping seed stitch as set continue until work measures 0.75 (1, 1, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.25)” from start of armholes ending on a WS row.

Straps

Work as for back straps, BO all stitches on each strap when they measure 3 (3, 3, 3.5, 4, 4, 4.5)”

Finishing

Wet block the dress to the stated measurements, once completely dry weave in all ends and sew a button on to both front straps lining them up with the buttonholes.
