Nantucket Pullover

This simple pullover contains classic seaside colors and a flattering stripe pattern. Knit in a soft and light yarn, this pullover is nothing like that heavy sweater in the back of your closet.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: Finished Bust Size 36 (40, 44, 48, 52)” to fit bust 32 (36, 40, 44, 48)”

4” positive ease recommended.

Gauge: 24 sts and 36 rows = 4” [10 cm] in double stranded St st after wet blocking

Materials

Lace weight yarnYarn: Malabrigo Yarn Lace (100% Baby Merino Wool; 470 yards [430 meters]50 grams): LMBB063 Natural (MC, 3 (4, 4, 5, 5) skeins), LMBB026 Continental Blue (CC1, 1 (1, 1, 1, 2) skeins), LMBB186 Buscando Azul (CC2, 2 skeins).

Needles: US size 6 (4.0 mm) 16” and 32” circular; US size 5 (3.75 mm) 16” and 32” circular

Notions: Markers, waste yarn for sleeves, tapestry needle

Special Stitches

LLI (Left lifted increase)

Insert your right needle from back to front underneath stitch two stitches below the next stitch on the right needle, then place this stitch on the left needle. Knit this stitch, and slip it off the needle.

RLI (Right lifted increase)

Use your right needle to pull the knit stitch one row below the first stitch on your right needle, then place the stitch on the left needle, taking care to ensure it doesn’t slip over the stitch next to it. Then knit the stitch and slip it off the needle.

Stripe Pattern (worked in the rnd)

With 2 strands of MC, knit 44 (56, 72, 82, 90) rows.

With 1 strand of MC and CC1, knit 2 rows.

With 2 strands of MC, knit 46 rows.

With 1 strand of MC and CC1, knit 4 rows.

With 2 strands of MC, knit 26 rows.

With 2 strands of CC1, knit 6 rows.

With 2 strands of MC, knit 16 rows.

With 2 strands of CC1, knit 8 rows.

With 2 strands of MC, knit 10 rows.

With 1 strand of CC1 and CC2, knit 10 rows.

With 2 strands of MC, knit 6 rows.

With 1 strand of CC1 and CC2, knit 12 rows.

With 2 strands of MC, knit 4 rows.

With 2 strands of CC2, knit 14 rows.

With 2 strands of MC, knit 2 rows.

 Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in the round from the top down, using 2 strands of yarn throughout.

Pattern

With smaller needles and 2 strands of MC, CO 48 (52, 52, 54, 58) sts, pm, CO 10 (10, 14, 18, 22) sts, pm, CO 48 (52, 52, 54, 58) sts, pm, CO 10 (10, 14, 18, 22) sts, place special marker for beginning of row. Join in the round, making sure not to twist work. (116 (124, 132, 144, 160) sts)

Rnd 1: *K2, p2; rep from * around.

Rep Rnd 1 until piece meas 0.75”.

Next Rnd (Dec): *Knit to marker while dec 8 (10, 10, 8, 10) sts evenly, sm, knit to next marker while dec 0 (0, 2, 2, 4) sts evenly; rep from * once more. (100 (104, 108, 124, 132) sts)

Switch to larger needles.

Beg Stripe Pattern.

Rnd 1: Knit.

Rnd 2 (Inc): *RLI, knit to marker, LLI; rep from * 3 times. (8 sts inc’d; 108 (112, 116, 132, 140) sts)

Cont in St st to 70 (78, 90, 94, 98) rnds from ribbing, while working Inc Rnd every 2 rows 10 (11, 15, 17, 21) times, then every 4 rows 7 (8, 7, 6, 3) times, then every 2 rows 9 (10, 14, 16, 20) times. (94 (102, 116, 126, 138) sts for body; 64 (66, 86, 96, 108) sts; 316 (336, 404, 444, 492) sts)

Next Rnd: *Knit to next marker, slip next 64 (70, 86, 96, 108) sts onto waste yarn, CO 14 (18, 16, 18, 18) sts; rep from * once more. (216 (240, 264, 288, 312) sts)

Cont in St st to the end of the Stripe Pattern.

Switch to smaller needles.

Next Rnd (with CC): Knit around, inc 48 (52, 60, 64, 68) sts evenly. (264 (292, 324, 352, 380) sts)

Next Rnd: *K2, p2; rep from * around.

Rep last rnd until ribbing meas 1.75”.

Sleeves

Beg on Rnd 25 (21, 17, 11, 7) of the 46 rnds of 2 strands of MC in Stripe Pattern.

Rnd 1: Pickup 7 (9, 8, 9, 9) sts along left side of underarm, knit 64 (66, 86, 96, 108) sts from waste yarn, pickup 7 (9, 8, 9, 9) sts along right side of underarm. (78 (84, 102, 114, 126) sts)

Work 7 (6, 4, 4, 3) more rows in St st.

Next Rnd (Dec): K2tog, work to 2 sts before marker, ssk. (2 sts dec’d; 76 (82, 100, 112, 124) sts)

Cont in St st to end of Stripe Pattern while working Dec Rnd every 9 (8, 6, 6, 5) rnds 11 (10, 17, 3, 13) times, then every 8 (7, 5, 5, 4) rnds 3 (7, 7, 25, 21) times. (48 (48, 52, 56, 56) sts)

Switch to smaller needles.

Next Rnd: *K2, p2; rep from * around.

Rep last rnd until ribbing meas 2”.
