Pattern Notes

Fully reversible syncopated 4-color brioche design. Color changes are preceded by a group of garter stitches which make this syncopating process so easy to remember.

The Garter stitches are later decorated vertically, by pulling red colored strands of yarn through the purl bumps.

Brown and vanilla colored garter stitch rows are centered within each color block and brown only garter stitch rows mark the beginning, the end, and the dividing line between each tile.

Fringe decorations finish this project perfectly.

Instructions for the larger size stole are given in parenthesis () where appropriate.

Rep Tile One once more.

End Scarf (Stole) with 1 rep of Tile Separation.

BO all sts using Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy BO or any other stretchy BO.

Finishing

Wet block the Scarf (Stole) to meas 12 (20)” / [30 (50) cm] wide x 72” / [183 cm] long.

Layout, making sure not to overstretch the brioche and garter sections. When wet, one 12 row brioche section meas 2.5”/ [6 cm] and one 12 row garter section measures 1.25” / [3 cm].

Do not use pins when blocking so the fabric can settle unstressed. The brioche and garter fabric will closely match the finished measurements after completely dry.

Sew in all the ends.

Cut 8 (16) pieces of CC6 at least 76” / [193 cm] long. Use a sewing needle to feed a strand in between the first and 2nd purl bumps of the 3 garter sts that separate the syncopated brioche. Feed the strand up through the entire length of the piece, leaving about 5” / [13 cm] tail on both ends. Feed another strand in between the 2nd and 3rd purl bumps, next to the previous strand.

Rep the same 2 strand feed through for all 3 garter stitch bands on both the right side and wrong side of the piece.

For the fringe cut 10” / [25 cm] long strands 20 (32) each from CC1 and CC2, 18 (30) each from CC3 and CC4. Hold together 1 strand from CC1 and CC2, fold the strands in half and attach to the Scarf (Stole) end. Alternate between CC1 – CC2 pairs and CC3 – CC4 pairs, leaving .25” / [1 cm] between each fringe. Incorporate the CC6 strands that are already in place by tying the 4 strands together. Trim the fringe to an even length of approx. 4.5” / [11 cm].
