Pattern

Using one strand each of A and B, CO 50 sts.

Beginning with a WS row, work in St st for 42 rows, ending after a RS row.

Turning Row (WS): Knit.

Resume St st and work 21 rows, ending after a RS row.

Rep Turning Row. Work in St st for 42 rows. BO.

Gussets

Using one strand each of A and B, with RS facing, pick up 15 sts between turning rows. Beginning with a WS row, work in St st for 42 rows. BO.

Repeat for second gusset.

With RS facing, using circular needle and A only, begin at top edge of Bag and pick up 27 sts evenly spaced down side. PM and pick up 27 sts evenly spaced up side of gusset. Arrange sts so that needle tips point to your right with gusset sts on one needle and Bag sts on other needle. Work 3-needle BO over all sts. Break yarn and pull through last st.

Repeat for three remaining sides of Bag. If you’d rather, simply seam the sides together using yarn A and mattress stitch.

Finishing

Wet block, placing a rolled-up towel inside bag to hold shape and pinning top open edge together.

I-cord Edging

With A and a DPN, CO 3 sts.

With second DPN, *k2, slip 1 purlwise, pick up a st at one corner of the Bag, pass slipped st over. Do not turn; slide sts to right end of DPN; rep from *, picking up one st in every BO st around top of Bag. When you reach the beginning, BO sts, break yarn and use end to seam two ends of i-cord together.

With C and tapestry needle, using photos as guide, embroider eyelashes onto Bag front.

Lining

From fabric and interfacing, cut the following pieces:

2 pieces that measure 10” wide by 6” tall

2 pieces that measure 3.5” wide by 6” tall

1 piece that measures 10” wide by 3.5” tall

Fuse interfacing to backs of fabric pieces. Sew pieces together, matching 10” sides, 6” sides, and 3.5” sides to make a bag that is the same size and shape as knitted bag.

Attach magnetic snap to center top of fabric bag about 1” down from top edge.

Trim seam allowances.

Place lining inside knitted bag. Fold down top edge of lining so that lining ends just under i-cord. Using needle and thread, slip stitch lining to knitted bag, just under i-cord.
