Ice Mountain Pullover

Skill Level: Intermediate 

Size: XS (S, M, L, XL, XXL) – pattern dimensions on schematic

Gauge: 24 sts x 30 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Slipped Lattice patt using US Size 6 ndls after wet blocking; 24 sts x 24 rows = 4” [10 cm] in fair-isle knitting using US Size 6 ndls after wet blocking.

Materials

Yarn:

 Fibra Natura Dona (100% extra fine superwash merino; 126 yards [115 meters]/50 grams): #130 Steely (MC, 9 (10, 12, 13, 14, 16) balls), #101 Vanilla (CC1, 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3) balls), #119 Clear Day (CC2, 1 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2) balls)
Needles: US size 3 (3.25 mm), US Size 4 (3.5 mm) and US Size 6 (4 mm) 24” circular and sets of dpns
Notions: Tapestry needle, removable stitch markers, waste yarn, stitch holders

Special Stitches

1x1x1 LC: Sl next st to right ndl, work a RT on the next 2 sts, reaching in front of the RT just made, insert left ndl into the slipped st, carefully slide RT and slipped st off the right ndl, then insert right ndl back into RT, k1.
1x1x1 RC: Sl next st to right ndl, work a RT on the next 2 sts, reaching in back of the RT just made, insert left ndl into the slipped st, carefully slide RT and slipped st off the right ndl, then insert right ndl back into RT, k1.
RT: K2tog but do not slip st from needle, knit first st again, slip both sts from needle.
LT: Knit the second st on the LH needle tbl, knit the first st on the LH needle tfl, slip both sts from needle.
I-Cord Bind-Off: Cast on 3 sts using knitted cast on. * K2, k2tog tbl, slip these 3 sts back to left ndl; rep from * until all sts have been bound off, bind off rem 3 I-Cord sts.

Pattern Notes

This sweater is worked seamlessly from the bottom up.
When working the Fair-Isle pattern in the yoke section, be sure to keep the pattern centered on Front/Back sections and Sleeves. The center-most stitch of the pattern is outlined in the chart with a green outline.

With US Size 3 dpns, cast on 50 (50, 50, 58, 58, 58) sts. PM and join to work in the rnd. 

Cuff

Rnd 1: * P1, k1; rep from * to end. Rep Rnd 1 until Cuff meas 1 1/2”. 

Main Sleeve

Switch to US Size 6 dpns.
Rnds 1-6: Work Rnds 1-6 of Slipped Lattice patt.
Inc rnd: M1, work in patt to last st, m1, p1. (2 sts inc’d)
Cont in patt, maintaining sts in patt as much as possible, rep Inc rnd every 8 (6, 4, 6, 4, 4) rnds, 9 (5, 3, 11, 6, 12)  times, then rep Inc rnd every 10 (8, 6, 8, 6, 6) rnds, 3 (9, 15, 5, 14, 10) times. (76 (80, 88, 92, 100, 104) sts)
Work even in patt until piece meas 17 (171/2, 171/2, 181/2, 181/4, 181/2)”, ending with Rnd 4 or 10 of patt. Knit 1 rnd. Work Rows 1-9 (5, 7, 5, 5, 3) of Fair Isle chart. Place the first 3 (3, 4, 4, 5, 6) sts of rnd and last 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6) sts of rnd onto waste yarn for underarm. Place rem sts onto holder.

Body

With US Size 3 circ ndl and MC cast on 200 (224, 248, 272, 296, 320) sts. PM and join to work in the rnd.

Hem

Rnd 1: * P1, k1; rep from * to end. Rep Rnd 1 until Hem meas 1 1/2”. 

Body

Switch to US Size 6 circ ndl.
Rnds 1-6: Work Rows 1-6 of Slipped Lattice patt.
Rnd 7: Remove marker, slip last 2 sts worked back to left ndl, work Row 7 of patt to end, replacing beg of rnd m after working the first RC.
Rnds 8-12: Work Rows 8-12 of patt.
Cont in patt until Body meas 14 1/2 (15, 15 1/2, 16, 16 1/4, 16 1/2)”, ending with Rnd 4 or 10 of patt. Knit 1 rnd. Work Rows 1-9 (5, 7, 5, 5, 3) of Fair Isle chart.

Raglan Shaping

Set-up rnd: With MC k3 (3, 4, 4, 5, 6), place last 7 (7, 9, 9, 11, 11) sts from RH ndl onto waste yarn for Right underarm, with CC1 k1, work Row 10 (6, 8, 6, 6, 4) of Fair Isle chart over 91 (103, 113, 125, 135, 147) Front sts, with CC1 k1, place next 7 (7, 9, 9, 11, 11) sts onto waste yarn for Left underarm, working onto Sleeve sts, pm, with CC1 k1, work Row 10 (6, 8, 6, 6, 4) of Fair Isle chart over 67 (71, 77, 81, 87, 91) sts, with CC1 k1, pm, with CC1 k1, work Row 10 (6, 8, 6, 6, 4) of Fair Isle chart over 91 (103, 113, 125, 135, 147) Back sts, with CC1 k1, pm, working onto Sleeve sts, with CC1 k1, work Row 10 (6, 8, 6, 6, 4) of Fair Isle chart over 67 (71, 77, 81, 87, 91) sts, pm, with CC k1. Dec rnd: * With CC ssk, work next row of patt to 2 sts bef m, k2tog; rep from * 3 more times. (8 sts dec’d)
Next rnd: With CC1 k1, * work next row of patt to m, with CC1 k2; rep from * 2 more times, work next row of patt to m, knit last st with CC1.
Cont to dec on Front and Back sections every other rnd, 20 (18, 16, 12, 10, 6) more times, then dec on Front and Back sections every rnd, 8 (16, 22, 32, 38, 48) times.
At the same time, cont to dec on Sleeves every other rnd, 20 (22, 22, 22, 22, 22) more times, then dec on Sleeves every rnd, 8 (8, 10, 12, 14, 16) times.
After all decs are completed, 92 (92, 100, 100, 108, 108) sts rem; 11 (11, 13, 13, 15, 15) sts each Sleeve, 35 (35, 37, 37, 39, 39) sts each Front and Back. Last row of chart worked will be 61 (61, 65, 65, 67, 67).

Turtleneck

Switch to US Size 3 16” circular ndl.
Rnd 1: * K1, p1; rep from * to end. Rep Rnd 1 until Neck meas 5”. Knit 1 rnd. Bind off all sts using I-Cord Bind-Off. 

Finishing

Place underarm sts on 2 dpns. Join using kitchener stitch. Weave in ends and block.
