Increases
In order to preserve the rib pattern, increases are always done by 2.
On MC rnd: With MC, k1B, but do not drop the st off needle, (yo, k1) in the same st, now drop st off needle. (2 sts increased)
On next CC rnd: With CC, work these 3 sts as k1, p1, k1.
Decreases
In order to preserve the rib pattern, decreases are always done by 2.
On MC rnd:
Lsl Dec (left slanting decrease):
Insert RH needle in the center of next st 1 row below (2 loops on needle), sl 1 st pwise, insert RH needle in the center of next st 1 row below (2 loops on needle), return 4 loops back to LH needle and k4tog, pass MC st from RH needle over. (2 sts decreased)
Rsl Dec (right slanting decrease):
Insert RH needle in the center of next st 1 row below (2 loops on needle), sl 1 st pwise, insert RH needle in the center of next st 1 row below (2 loops on needle), return 5 loops back to LH needle and k5tog. (2 sts decreased)
Pattern Notes
The body and sleeves are worked separately in the round, bottom up to the armholes and then they are joined and the yoke is worked in the round with raglan shaping to the neck.
Fisherman’s Rib is very similar to single rib, but doesn’t have the elasticity of the classical rib and is fluffier. At the beginning, it might be a little messy and confusing, but as you work some rows, the pattern will be visible and will guide you from itself.
In 2-Color Fisherman’s Rib, every rnd must be worked twice to be completed. Every rnd is worked first with one color and then with the second one. The main color forms the “knit” columns on the RS and the secondary color forms the “purl” columns on the RS.
After you have worked one rnd with the main color, bring the yarn to the back of your work and bring the secondary yarn in front of your work.
