Pattern Notes
The socks are worked top down with a twisted rib cuff, traditional slip stitch heel flap and riverbed gusset with an optional ordinary gusset. The design features chain cables, knit, and purl textures.
Pattern
CO 56 (64, 72) sts, join to work in the rnd using magic loop method or preferred method of small diameter.
Cuff
Rnds 1-16: Work in Twisted 1×1 Rib. Cuff should meas 1½” / [3.8 cm] from CO edge.
Leg
Work Chart Pattern twice around until Sock meas 7 (8, 9)” / [18 (20, 23) cm] or to desired length from CO edge.
Heel Flap
The heel flap is worked back and forth only on the 28 (32, 36) Heel sts (the back half of the sock). The rem sts will not be worked during the heel flap or heel turn.
Row 1 (RS): *Sl1 purlwise, k1; rep from * to end.
Row 2 (WS): Sl1 purlwise, p to end.
Rep Rows 1-2 until 28 (32, 36) rows are complete.
Heel Turn
Note: Work slip sts purlwise (sl1 purlwise) throughout unless otherwise instructed.
Row 1 (RS): Sl1, k16 (18, 20), ssk, k1, turn.
Row 2 (WS): Sl1, p7 (7, 7), p2tog, p1, turn.

Riverbed Gusset
After the heel turn, place markers on either side of the remaining heel flap stitches 18 (20, 22). These stitches will be decreased every other row until there are 2 remaining stitches.
Work across heel stitches 18 (20, 22), pick up 14 (16, 18) sts along the side of the heel .
Pick up a stitch from the row below the first instep st to prevent a hole (this stitch will be treated the same as the other heel stitches – total 15 (17, 19).
Work across instep sts, continuing chart.
Pick up a st from the row below the first heel st to prevent a hole (this stitch will be treated the same as the other heel stitches). Pick up 14 (16, 18) sts along the side of the heel – total 15 (17, 19). Work remainder of heel sts.
Work across instep sts – continue chart. This is the new beg of rnd.
Shape Riverbed Gusset
Rnd 1: (Dec Rnd)
Heel: Knit to marker, slip marker, ssk, knit to 2 sts before second marker, K2tog, slip marker. Knit remainder of heel/gusset sts.
Instep: Work even. (continue chart)
Rnd 2: Work even.
Repeat Rnds 1 and 2 until there are 2 sts between the markers.
Shape Second Riverbed Gusset
There should be 32 (36, 40) heel/gusset sts remaining. Knit 12 (14, 16) sts, add marker, ssk knit 4 sts, k2tog, add marker, knit 12 (14, 16). The first set of markers can be removed now. Work one round even.
Rnd 1: (Dec Rnd)
Knit to marker, slip marker, ssk, knit to 2 sts before second marker, K2tog, slip marker. Knit remainder of heel/gusset sts.

Rnd 2: Work even.
Continue Rnds 1 and 2 until there are 56 (64, 72) sts rem.

Foot
Cont working in Sock Chart Pattern until Foot meas 1¾ (2, 2¼)” / [4.45 (5, 5.72) cm] shorter than desired total length. Complete Instep sts. This is the new beg of rnd.
Toe Welt
Cont with Rnds 1-2 of Chart Pattern for size.
Over the next 8 rounds, continue working the sole plain and the welt pattern over the instep sts as follows:
Row 1 – 2: Knit 28 (32, 36), Purl 28 (32, 36).
Row 3 – 4: Knit 56 (64, 72).
Row 5 – 8: Repeat rows 1- 4.
Shape Toe
Rnd 1 (Dec):
Sole: K1, ssk, work to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
Instep: K1, ssk, work to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
Rnd 2: Work even around.
Rep Rnds 1-2 until 36 (40, 44) sts rem.

Finishing
Holding Needle 1 and Needle 2 together, graft sts using Kitchener Stitch.

Yup – a ripoff for sure. These Toasted Marshmallow Socks are the same sock as the Fireside Glow Socks – just in a different color. You didn’t even bother to change the name of the charts. How funny that they wound up in the same issue after all these years.
