This beautiful shawlette begins with a gorgeous edging and is then decreased with short rows until the crescent shape is achieved. This shawlette is great for chilly summer evenings and is a perfect project for someone who has not tried short rows before.

Special Stitches
Pick up and Knit, Pick up and Purl (combination)
Hold the right-side of fabric facing you.
Hold the yarn in the back of work.
Insert the needle from front to back under the two legs of the next stitch.
Wrap yarn around the needle and pull through.
Bring the yarn to front.
Insert the needle from back to front under the two legs of the next stitch.
Wrap yarn around the needle and pull through.
Repeat steps 3-7 until all necessary stitches have been picked up.
In addition, keep in mind that you may need to use a smaller needle to pick up stitches. After all the stitches are picked up, go back to your original needle size and continue your work. Of course, when you use the same color yarn as your project, the picked up stitches will not be visible. The other important point you will notice is that the ugly ridge is not there anymore. It has magically disappeared.

Pattern Notes
Since the edging is worked only on 13 sts, you can use short straight needles or double points for the edging then switch to circular needles for working the body of the shawl.
When working short-rows in Garter stitch, there is no need to wrap the yarn as in regular short-rows. There will be no holes to show the spot.
Pattern
Cast on 13 sts.
Row 1: Knit.
Work Double Fan Lace Edging pattern, 25 times.
Last row: Knit.
Bind off all sts loosely.
Pick up and knit, pick up and purl, 260 sts along the straight edge of the edging.
Rows 1-4: Knit.
Start working short-rows as follows:
Row 5: K135. Turn.
Row 6: Sl1wyif, k9. Turn.
Row 7: Knit to the last stitch of the row (last stitch that was turned), ssk the turned stitch with the next stitch, k2. Turn.
Repeat row 7 until all sts are worked. (176 sts)
Note: For the last row only 2 sts are left to be worked, ssk the turned stitch with the next stitch.
Turn.
Decrease row: K21, (k2tog, k20) 7 times, end with k1. (169 sts)
Bind off all sts loosely.
Finishing
Weave in all ends.

Is there a video of the pick up and knit/pick up and purl technique? I would find a demo much easier to follow.
Thanks for the pattern

Looks like a really nice pattern, but I’m a larger person. Is it possible to create this in a larger size and how?

What do you mean by the abbreviation SSK thank you. Like the pattern otherwise.
SSK means to slip two stitches as if to knit onto the right hand needle then knit them together.
SSK means slip slip knit
Is it possible to make this bigger since I am a larger person?
I love the style and edging – and it looks fairly easy thank you
Thank you, very nice pattern.
I usually create my own patterns, so I wanted to see how well this goes prior to ordering anything. I’m looking to learn more opened lace patterns, & even Doily lace to apply to other designs.
