Abbreviations
CDD (center double decrease) – Sl 2 sts tog knitwise to RH needle, knit next st, pass 2 sl sts over knit st. Center st will lie on top of other 2 sts.
Special Stitches
Faux Crochet/Side Pattern (multiple of 3 sts + 2)
Row 1 (WS): Purl.
Row 2: K1, *yo, CDD, yo; rep from *, ending with k1.
Row 3: Purl, working (k1, p1) into double yo of previous row.
Row 4: Knit.
Rep Rows 1-4 for patt.
Pattern Notes
Circular needles are used to accommodate large number of sts. Do not join, work in rows.
When shaping neck and ends, make sure to keep st count of side pattern consistent. Each yo must have a matching decrease. If you cannot work both, keep sts in St st.
Border pattern increases from 12 sts to 17, then back down to 12 sts after 20 rows.
Do not remove safety pin markers from border until shawl is complete.
Gauge is not critical to this project, but may affect the amount of yarn required.
Pattern
Border
With larger needles, CO 12 sts.
Work 13 reps of Border Chart, placing safety pin marker in last st of each Row 20 (unshaped edge). BO all sts.
Shawl
With smaller needle and RS of Border facing, pick up and knit 19 sts between markers of center (7th) motif. Place ring marker on RH needle, pick up and knit 5 sts more, turn. (24 sts)
Row 1 (WS): Purl to center motif marker, work Row 1 of Center Panel over 19 sts, place ring marker on RH needle, pick up and purl 5 sts from Border, turn. (29 sts)
Row 2: Work Row 2 of Side pattern to marker, Row 2 of Center Panel, Row 2 of Side pattern over 5 sts, pick up and knit 3 sts, turn. (32 sts)
Row 3: Work Row 3 of Side pattern to marker, Row 3 of Center Panel, Row 3 of Side pattern over 8 sts, pick up and purl 3 sts, turn. (35 sts)
Row 4: Work Row 4 of all patterns on 35 sts, pick up and knit 3 sts, turn. (38 sts)

Shape and Right End
Note: Pick up and purl is worked in every other st on WS only from this point
Row 1 (WS): Purl 40 sts and place on holder for left side of neck, BO until 39 sts rem on LH needle, purl to end of row, sk 1 st, pick up and purl 1 st, turn. (40 sts)
Row 2: Work even in established Row 2 patt.
Row 3: P3tog, purl to end working (k1, p1) into double yo of previous row, sk 1 st, pick up and purl 1 st, turn. (39 sts)
Row 4: Knit to last 3 sts, k3tog. (37 sts)
Row 5: P3tog, purl to last 3 sts, sk 1 sts, pick up and purl 1 st, turn. (36 sts)
Rep Rows 2-5 until all Border sts on the Right End have been worked.

Shape Neck and Left End
Slip sts from holder to smaller needles, and with RS facing, join yarn at neck edge.
Begin with Row 2, work in established patt to end of row, sk 1 st, pick up and knit 1 st at end of row, turn. (41 sts)
Row 3: Purl working (k1, p1) in double yo of previous row to last 3 sts, p3tog-tbl. (39 sts)
Row 4: Ssk, knit to end of row, sk 1 st, pick up and knit 1 st, turn. (38 sts)
Row 5: Purl to last 3 sts, p3tog-tbl. (36 sts)
Rep Rows 2-5 until all Border sts on the Left End have been worked.
BO sts.
Top Edging
With RS facing, join yarn at BO end of Border.
Keeping work flat and with crochet hook, work 1 row in sc along short end of border, across top edge of shawl, and along remaining short (CO) edge of border. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in front lp of next st, *ch 3, sl st in same lp of last sc, sc in front lp of next 3 sc; rep from *, ending with 1 sc. Fasten off.
Finishing
Weave in all ends. Block.
