Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Valley Yarn Northampton (100% wool; 247 yards [225 meters]/100 grams): Burgundy (2 skeins)
Needles: US size 6 (4.0 mm) straight or circular needles
Notions: Cable needle, blocking material (Blocking mat, rust-proof T-pins, blocking wires, etc.)

Special Stitches

c4b: Slip two stitches to cable needle, hold at back. Knit 2, then knit 2 stitches from cable needle.
c4f: Slip two stitches to cable needle, hold at front. Knit 2, then knit 2 stitches from cable needle.
c4bp: Slip two stitches to cable needle, hold at back. Knit 2, then purl two stitches from the cable needle.
c4fp: Slip two stitches to cable needle, hold at front. Purl two stitches, then knit two stitches from cable needle.

Pattern

Rib Pattern
Row 1: *K2, p2*, repeat from * to * till last two stitches, k2.
Row 2: Purl all.

Valentino Cable Pattern
Row 1: K2, p5, c4b, c4f, {p4, c4b} two times, c4f, p5, k2.
Row 2: K7, p8, k4, p4, k4, p8, k7.

Pattern Notes

The chart shows the right side as well as the wrong side rows. Odd numbered rows are right side rows and are read from right to left. Even side rows are wrong side rows and are read left to right. Rows 1 to 28 form one cable pattern repeat. 

Pattern

Cast on 42 stitches using knitted cast on.
Work in the rib pattern for 12 rows.
Row 13 onwards, continue working with the sweetheart cable pattern. Work rows 1-28 of Cable pattern a total of 15 times.
Work in the rib pattern for 12 rows.
Bind off all stitches.
Block well and weave in the ends.
