Size: Adult Medium (Large) to fit 7½” (8½”) hand circumference.
Shown in size Medium.
Gauge: 32 sts and 32 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Stranded Colorwork.
Materials
Yarn: Berroco Vintage DK (50% Acrylic, 40% Wool, 10% Nylon; 288 yards [263 meters]/100 grams): 2145 Cast Iron (MC), 1 ball; 2100 Snow Day (CC1), 1 ball; 2157 Paprika (CC2), 1 ball.
Needles: US size 3 (3.0 mm): DPNs or circular needle
Notions: Stitch holder or waste yarn; tapestry needle.
Abbreviations
R = Right leaning backwards loop increase
L = Left leaning backwards loop increase
Special Stitches
Backwards loop increase:
Twist the working yarn into a loop, (twist clockwise for a Left Leaning increase and counterclockwise for Right Leaning increase), slip the loop onto the working needle and pull tight.
Pattern Notes
These mitts are worked in the round from the bottom up.
There are separate colorwork charts for right and left hand mitts in each size. Work one right and one left-hand mitt, using the charts for your size.
Some of the rounds are marked Size Large only. Skip these rounds when knitting the Medium size.

Rnds 1-16: *K1, p1; rep from * around.
Size Medium only
Rnd 17: *K5, R, k6, R; rep from * around – 52 sts.
Size Large only
Rnd 17: *K5, R; rep from * around – 60 sts.

Rnd 18: Knit.
Rnds 19-61: Work Stranded Colorwork chart from right to left and from bottom to top with the following instruction notes below.
Note: On chart Rnd 21, st 52 (60) becomes the center of the Thumb Gusset and gusset increases are made on either side of this st.
After working chart Rnd 42, transfer 19 (21) Thumb Gusset sts to a stitch holder or waste yarn. Continue working chart.
Rnd 62: Cut CC1, leaving a short tail and with MC, knit around.
Rnd 63: K1 (0), p1 (0), k1 (0), p1 (0), *k2tog, p1, k1, p1, k1, p2tog, k1, p1, k1, p1; rep from * around – 44 (50) sts.
Rnds 64-66: *K1, p1; rep from * around.
Size Large only
Rnds 67-68: *K1, p1; rep from * around.

Pick up 19 (21) sts from holder, pick up 1 (3) sts in the gap where the Thumb meets the hand – 20 (24) sts.

Rnd 3-5: With MC, *k1, p1; rep from * around.
Size Large only
Rnds 6-7: *K1, p1; rep from * around.

Finishing
Use yarn ends to sew up any holes where the Thumb meets the Hand.
Weave in all ends. Block.
