Eucalyptus Clutch

This simple and elegant lace clutch is perfect as a makeup bag, wallet or evening clutch. Featuring a lovely trellis stitch front and a button snap closure, this clutch is as lovely as it is functional.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 7” / [17 cm] x 4.5” / [11.5 cm]

Gauge: 23 sts and 38 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking

Materials

Yarn: Fine weight yarnSchachenmayr Catania (100% Cotton; 137 yards [125 meters]/50 grams): 172 Silber (1 ball)

Needles: US size 2.5 (3.0 mm) straight or circular needles

Notions: Magnetic clasp, fabric for lining (8” x 15”), fusible interfacing (8” x 15”), felt fabric for lining the flap (4” x 7”), tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Trellis Pattern

Row 1: *K2, k2tog, yo, k3; rep from * to end.

Row 2: *P1, p2tog tbl, yo, p1, yo, p2tog, p1; rep from * to end.

Row 3: *K2tog, yo, k3, yo, sl 1, k1, psso; rep from * to end.

Row 4: Purl.

Row 5: *Yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k5; rep from * to end.

Row 6: *Yo, p2tog, p2, p2tog tbl, yo, p1; rep from * to end.

Row 7: *K2, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k2tog, yo, k1; rep from * to end.

Row 8: Purl.

Rep Rows 1-8 for patt.

Pattern

CO 43 sts.

Note: Knitted on cast-on is recommended.
Rows 1-4: K all sts.

Work Trellis Pattern following the chart or written instructions.
Rows 5-36: K4, work Trellis Pattern 5 times over 35 sts, k4.

Note: Trellis pattern is worked for 32 rows, 4 repeats.

Rows 37-39: K all sts.

Row 40: K4, p35, k4.

Rep Rows 39-40 until the back meas 4.5” / [11.5 cm].

Work Rows 37-40, then Rows 37-38 until front meas 4” / [10 cm].

Next 4 Rows: K all sts.
BO all sts.

Finishing

Block the clutch before joining the body.

Mattress stitch the sides of the body together.
