As light and delicate as the petals of a hibiscus flower, this shawl is the answer to your summer knitting woes. This shawl is worked in blocks, making it a portable design while it’s in progress. Once finished, it is lightweight enough to wear even on the warmest days.

Yarn: Knit Picks Shadow (100% Merino Wool; 440 yards [402 meters]/50 grams): 27028 Blossom Heather
Needles: US size 3 (3.25 mm) two 16” circular needles or 5 DPNs
Notions: Markers, tapestry needle (optional), crochet hook US size B (2.25 mm) (optional)
Pattern Notes
Each motif of this shawl is bound off with a rnd of crocheted chains. If you prefer not to use crochet, BO loosely then sew them together with tapestry needle. Keep in mind that if you choose to sew them, it will affect the width and length and your shawl will be smaller.
When working with the crochet hook, an option for k4tog, ch 7 is to (k4tog, knit 7 times in the same stitch) repeat around. An option for k4tog, ch 3 is to (k4tog, knit 3 times in the same needle, drop st from needle pass needle through the corresponding space on the previous motif, slip stitch back on needle and knit the same stitch 3 times) repeat around.

Finishing
Top edge finishing
Attach yarn to the left-hand corner of top edge, *ch 7, sl st in third yo; rep from * to end. Fasten off.
Weave in all ends.
Block shawl to size.
Fringe (optional)
Cut 2 pieces of 15″ length of yarn.
Fold in half and pass through the next ch-7 sp at the bottom edge.
Continue along both edges.
Trim the edge of the fringe to make them even.
