Snuggle up in this lovely shawl on the front porch when the mornings start to get crisp with frost. The subtle hints of geometric shapes are softened by the delicate picot edging, creating a well-balanced piece.

Pattern Notes
This pattern is worked from the top down. Stitches are picked up from a Garter Tab Cast On. For the first part of the shawl you will increase 10 sts every RS row, then 8 sts increased every RS row 6 times. For the main body of the shawl you will be increasing 4 sts every RS row. Finish the shawl with a knitted-on edging across the live sts of the shawl. Remove the 2 stitch markers at the shoulders on Row 29 of Side Chart 1; they are the 2 stitch markers that are different from the others.
The first and last three stitches aren’t included in the charts or written directions. They will be worked in Garter Stitch (knit every row). Every RS row after the Set-up Row will be worked in the following order:
(RS): K3, work Side Chart, work Center Chart, work Side Chart, k3.
(WS): K3, p to last 3 sts, k3. WS Rows are not included in chart or written directions.
The large 6-st cables in the Center Chart and the Border are unusual. Don’t forget to purl the Center stitch in each set of 3-sts being crossed.
Pattern
Using the Provisional Cast-On Method, CO 4 sts.
Row 1: K4.
Rows 2: Sl1 wyif, k3.
Rep Rows 1-2, 23 more times, then work Row 1 once more. Without turning work, pick up and k1 st from each sl st, then 4 sts from Provisional Cast-on – 32 sts.
Set-up Row (WS): K3, pm, p2, pm2, p1, pm, p20, pm, p2, pm2, p1, pm, k3 – 32 sts.
Begin working from Chart or written directions.
Note: Pattern is worked in this order: Side Chart, Center Chart, Side Chart.
Row 1 (RS): K3, work Side Stitch Chart 1 patt, work Center Stitch patt, work Side Stitch Chart 2 patt, k3.
Row 2 and all WS rows: K3, p to last 3 sts, k3
Work Side Chart 1 and Center Chart 1 for 36 rows, then work Side Chart 2 and Center 2. Side Chart 2 will be repeated twice for every one repeat of Center Chart 2.
Work Rows 1-32, 3 times, then rep Rows 1-16 once more – 406 sts.
Border
Note: The last st in each RS row is decreased with 1 st from the live Shawl sts. You will repeat the border chart until all the Shawl sts are used. Then BO 13 sts of Border Chart patt.
After 5 or 6 repeats of Border Chart patt, check that you have the right number of Shawl sts remaining. You can work k3tog instead of the k2tog, if you will have extra sts.
Using the Cable Cast-On Method, CO 13 sts.
Row 1 and all RS rows: Work Border Chart patt.
Row 2 and all WS rows: Sl1 wyif, p to end of row.
Cont in est patt until there are no sts left from the Body of the Shawl – 28 repeats of Border Chart patt plus Rows 1-27 once more.
BO 13 Border sts.
Finishing
Weave in ends. Wet block, shaping points of border.
