Watermelon Pouch

Keep your sunnies safe and sound in this whimsical pouch featuring a zippered top and watermelon design.  Increases are done in four places to create a half circle reminiscent of a ripe slice of summer fruit. You’ll love carrying this adorable bag with you wherever you go.

Size: 10.75” wide x 5.25” deep.

Gauge: 20 sts and 23 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking.

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Cascade Yarns Cascade 220 Superwash (100% Superwash Wool; 220 yards [200 meters]/100 grams): #903 Flamingo Pink (MC, 1 skein), #815 Black (CC, 1 skein), #817 Aran (C1, 1 skein), #906 Chartreuse (C2, 1 skein).

Needles: US size 7 (4.5 mm) straight or circular.

Notions: Tapestry needle, scissors, 11” long zipper in pink color, sewing needle, pins, pink sewing thread.

Pattern Notes

This whimsical watermelon clutch starts at the top and is worked flat.

Increases are done in four places to create half circle.

Small amount of stranded colorwork is used for the seeds. The rim is worked in stripes section of C1 and C2 colors, then continue to work on the other side of the watermelon clutch with decreases in  four places and stranded colorwork for the seeds. When carrying non-working yarn, twist the yarn along the edge around the working yarn.

Zipper is sewn to the top to close the clutch.

Finishing

Weave in ends, wash and block to measurements.

Attach the zipper to the opening, securing it at place with pins before sewing.

Carefully sew the zipper to the knitted fabric, using sewing needle and sewing thread.
