Raspberry Rose Sweater

A peasant-style sweater with a hem of roses is the perfect companion for unpredictable spring weather.

Materials

Super fine weight yarnYarn: Anzula Squishy (80% Merino, 10% Cashmere Goat, 10% Nylon; 385 yards [352 meters]/114 grams): Seaside (MC, 2 (3, 3, 3, 4, 4) balls)

Needles: US size 3 (3.25 mm) 36” circular, US size 2 (2.75 mm) 6” DPNs (for i-cord)

Notions: Markers (2), stitch holders (2), tapestry needle, beads (2) and accent beads (2) to fit i-cord, sewing machine to prepare steek edges

Abbreviations

German Short Row or German Turn and Work (GTW) – A nearly invisible short row technique, work to desired turn, turn work, hold yarn to front, slip stitch to right needle and lift working yarn uo and over pulling tightly, creating a double st. Work to next turn as instructed and repeat. All double sts created will be knit as one stitch on following row.

i-cord: Longtail cast on 3 stitches to a DPN, without turning work, slip stitches to other end of needle with working yarn to the left. Bring working yarn around back to knit the 3 stitches. Continue to slip stitches to the other end of the DPN and knit the 3 sts, until desired length. When length is reached, knit the 3 stitches together, break yarn, and pull through remaining st.

Lace CO: Go into the stitch on your left needle (with your right needle) as if to knit/purl twist the new stitch and replace to the left needle, repeat until desired number of stitches are cast on.

Cable CO:  *Knit a stitch from between the two stitches on left needle, twist, and replace to left needle* repeat from *to *, until desired number of stitches are cast on.

Linen Stitch (worked in the rnd over an odd number of sts)

Rnd 1: *K1, sl1 with yarn held to front; rep from * to last st, k1.

Rnd 2: *Sl1 with yarn held to front, k1; rep from * to last st, sl1 with yarn held to front.

Pattern Notes

Raspberry Rose is a tunic style pullover with neck ties, worked from the bottom up.

It has a flared bottom edge and slight bell of the 3/4 length sleeves.

The rose motif is worked over the bottom edges of the body and sleeves.

The neckline is a V with i-cord tie closure.

The Neck opening over the yoke may be worked flat. Omit the 4 steek sts and work back and forth in rows in stockinette.

With MC and circular needles, CO 225 (241, 273, 289, 321, 337) sts. Join to work in the rnd, being careful to not twist sts and placing a marker to denote beg of rnd.

Work approx. 1” in Linen Stitch (worked in the rnd over an odd number of sts).

Short Row Neck Shaping (work any double sts created from the German Short Row (GTW) as one st)

Short Row 1: P7, k1, p6, ktbl, k62 (68, 75, 80, 89, 89), GTW.

Short Row 2: p45 (49, 53, 57, 63. 63), GTW.

Short Row 3: Knit to 4 sts past the double st created by the GTW, then work GTW.

Short Row 4: Purl to 4 sts past the double st created by the GTW, then work GTW.

Work Short Rows 3 & 4 once more and AT THE SAME TIME, on final row, knit to last 16 sts, ktbl, p6, bind off last 9 and first 9 sts.

Collar

WS Row: K2, *p1, sl with yarn held to RS of work; rep from * to last 3 sts, p1, k2.

RS Row: K2, *sl with yarn held to RS of work, k1; rep from * to last 3 sts, sl with yarn held to RS of work, k2.

BO all sts, loosely, using a standard bind off purl-wise.

Prepare and cut steek.

Fold neck tie hems and sew in place with MC.

I-cord neck tie

With MC and smaller needles, work a 3 st i-cord approx. 52-58” long.

Finish off.

Finishing

Graft underarm sts.

Weave in all ends. Block sweater and i-cord.

With any CC, embroider a simple running st around the neck closure for a bit of colour.

Weave i-cord into holes and tie bead/beads to each end.
