Karen Fletcher is a designer and knitter from Ottawa, Canada.  Her love of math and making things made her fall in love with knitting design soon after she learned to knit, she's been selling her designs since 2013. She loves textured knits, cables, and colorwork, and can often be found knitting a project with those elements while her son "helps" her knit and her daughter unravels her yarn; she is so charmed by their love of yarn that she actually adores this.

Sweet Cinnamon Wrap

Wrap yourself up to keep cozy as we head into fall and winter. This wrap is a fantastic project for newer knitters, and a great introduction to charts and patterns since the pattern always builds on the rows beneath it in a predictable way. Featuring the Cascade Yarns Aereo in Provence (just like the Harvest Poncho pattern also in this issue), this is one of our favorites for the new season.

Mod Mini Purse

Mini purses are trending and this mod mini purse is the knitter’s version of this tiny trend. Using colorwork to create sleek and angled lines between shades of white, gray and black, this is an excellent project for beginner intarsia knitters.

Palm Frond Swatch

Practice these palm frond style motifs, you’ll be ready to add them to just about all of your knits! Master this swatch and picture cute scarves, shawls, maybe even a purse flap with these palm inspired stitches.

Vivid Chevron Pillow

Vivid Chevron Pillow

This chevron pillow is a great way to play with color. Make all of the chevron motifs the same color or change each up to make it exactly your own. This is a fairly straightforward intarsia project (there’s no shaping, so you can focus on colorwork if that’s new to you) — just make sure to keep your floats nice and loose!

Dishes Are A Breeze Beginner Dishcloths

If you are a beginning knitter but are intimidated by the idea of trying new patterns and techniques, stop and relax, this is the perfect pattern to get you started. It’s really straight forward, doesn’t need a lot of yarn or different notions and you’ll probably finish it in less than a week. Finishing something gives such a sense of accomplishment and it’s good to have that at the start of your knitting journey.

Lara Lace Shawl + Swatch

If lace is on your bucket list Lara is the pattern that will help you conquer a lace shawl!  All of the stitches used are fairly basic and the yarn is nice and thick which allows you to see your stitches easily, and the pattern builds on the previous row in a logical way so you can see where you are. Plus the pattern is very repetitive which means you’ll have it memorized in no time.
