Living on the edge of a national wildlife refuge, the changing colors and scenery of the Midwest’s four distinct seasons have a noticeable effect on Diane’s design aesthetic. Her philosophy is that of creating classic, yet current, garments that can be enjoyed across several seasons. Unique stitch combinations and knitting techniques are the hallmark of Diane's designs resulting in truly distinct patterns.
Diane has been sewing and crocheting since she was seven and knitting since she was in her teens. She began her professional knitwear career in 1984 after receiving encouragement from Elizabeth Zimmermann to publish her unique designs. To date, over 650 of her designs have appeared in all nationally recognized knitting publications including, but not limited to Knitter’s, Vogue Knitting, and Interweave Knits as well as numerous yarn company pattern collections. Her designs on available on Patternfish.com and other online venues and are the perfect complement to the print publications where her work has traditionally appeared and through which she continues to offer patterns. Jack is a great introduction to Fair Isle knitting. The majority of the patterns are simple three- or four-stitch repeats divided by solid-colored stripes. It begins with ribbed ends that are worked back and forth then overlapped, creating a faux-buttoned closure. The remainder is worked circular in two halves. They are joined at the center with Kitchener stitch, creating a mirror image of the pattern. Because the scarf is worked circular, ends can be left inside rather than working them in.
