Brenda Castiel

brenda-castiel

I’ve been knitting on and off since my teens, but became somewhat obsessed with it in 2007. I love squishy wools for the short, mild Los Angeles winters, and like light-weight wools, cottons and blends for the rest of the year. I really believe that even beginner knitters can create something beautiful and useful, so I strive to keep patterns simple yet original.

I have sold designs to Interweave Knits, Vogue Knitting, Knit Picks, Knit Now magazine, Classic Elite Yarns, and Three Irish Girls Yarns, and have been published in several books.

You Knit; You Learn

I taught myself to knit as a teenager, and having no one around me to show me the ropes meant I had to figure things out for myself. There are a few things I’ve learned along the way that I wish I had known earlier since they would have saved me a lot of time

Coral Sands Shawl

The Coral Sands Shawl is a beautifully wearable, V-shaped wrap that drapes effortlessly around your shoulders, making it a versatile addition to any wardrobe. Designed to be easier to style than crescent or half-circle shawls, this pattern begins with a delicate lace edging that frames the lower and side edges. As you knit, gentle decreases create the signature V shape, enhancing the shawl’s structure and wearability. Lacy stripes with varying textures add depth and interest, making this design a perfect showcase for a hand-dyed or tonal yarn. Whether layered over a casual outfit or worn as an elegant accent piece, the Coral Sands Shawl is a stunning combination of beauty and simplicity.

Ocean Spray Shawl

Inspired by the rhythmic waves of the ocean, the Ocean Spray Shawl is a versatile triangular shawlette that effortlessly combines comfort and style. Knit in garter stitch at a relaxed gauge, this design creates a soft, airy fabric that drapes beautifully over the shoulders or wraps snugly around the neck. The delicate lace edging adds a touch of sophistication and visual interest, making this the perfect accessory for layering under a coat in cooler months or wearing as a breezy accent piece in warmer weather. Whether you’re strolling along the shoreline or sipping coffee in the city, this timeless shawlette will be a staple in your wardrobe.
