This is a fast and easy project worked in variegated yarn that adds to the beauty of the design. The hat follows an easy slip stitch pattern that works well with the yarn and works up fast to accommodate knitting in round, I will use two circular needles for the gloves and top of the hat.

Yarn: Red Heart Boutique Treasure (70% acrylic, 30% wool; 151 yards [138 meters]/100 grams): #1930 Horizon (3 balls)
Needles: 2 US size 10 (6.0 mm) 16″ circular knitting needles
Notions: Tapestry needle, waste piece of yarn
Special Stitches
2X2 Rib: Multiple of 4 sts
Rnd 1: * K2, p2; repeat from * around.
Repeat rnd 1 for pattern.
Checkered Basket Stitch: Multiple of 6 sts
Rnds 1-2: Knit.
Rnds 3-5: * Sl2 wyib, k4; repeat from * around.
Rnds 4-6: * Sl2 wyib, p4; repeat from * around.
Rnds 7-8: Knit.
Rnds 9-11: K3, * sl2 wyib, k4; repeat from * around, end rnd with k1.
Rnds 10-12: P4, * sl2 wyib, p4; repeat from * around, end rnd with p1.
Repeat rnds 1-12.
Pattern Notes
Sl2 wyib: Slip 2 sts with yarn in back.
M1: Insert needle underneath the yarn between two sts. Wrap around left-hand needle. Knit into the wrap.
Hat Pattern
Cast on 100 sts. Join, making sure not to twist.
Rnds 1-20: Work 2×2 rib.
Rnd 21: Switch to Checkered Basket stitch increasing 8 sts across rnd. (108 sts)
Continue in pattern as established until piece measures 9″.
Work rnds 1-2. Place half of the sts on a second circular needle and work decreasing as below:
Rnd 1: * Ssk, k8, k2tog; repeat from * around. (90 sts)
Rnd 2 and all even numbered rnds: Knit.
Rnd 3: * Ssk, k6, k2tog; repeat from * around. (72 sts)
Rnd 5: * Ssk, k4, k2tog; repeat from * around. (54 sts)
Rnd 7: * Ssk, k8, k2tog; repeat from * around. (36 sts)
Rnd 9: * Ssk, k2tog; repeat from * around. (18 sts)
Rnd 10: Knit.
Cut 10″ tail. Thread tapestry needle and go through all sts. Pull tight and secure.
Finishing
Weave in all ends.
Fingerless Gloves (Make 2)
Cast on 40 sts. Distribute on 2 circ. needles and join making sure not to twist.
Work 20 rnds of 2X2 ribbing. Increase 8 sts along the last rnd of ribbing. (48 sts)
Work as Checkered Basket stitch until piece measures 8″. (3 repeats)
Work rnds 1-2 of Checkered Basket stitch.
Place 12 sts on waste yarn for thumb.
Continue as pattern until piece is 9″. (1 repeat)
Work 6 rnds of garter stitch. Bind off all sts.
Note: Garter stitch in round is worked as knit one round, purl one round.
Thumb
Move each 6 sts on one circular needle. Pick up 2 sts at the joint of the thumb. (14 sts)
Work 6 rnds of garter stitch. Bind off.
Finishing
Weave in all ends.
