Sometimes you just need a fun striped top to take on your sightseeing adventures, and this top is the perfect choice for all your journeys. Add it as a layer over a long tee, or wear it plain when it’s hot out.

Materials
Yarn: Stitch Sprouts Yellowstone (80% wool, 20% silk; 285 yards [260 meters]/100 grams): Sand Verbena (MC, 2 (2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3) skeins), Old Faithful (CC, 2 (2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3) skeins)
Needles: US size 4 (3.5 mm) 16” and 29” circular needles, US size 3 (3.25 mm) 16” circular needles and set of five DPNs
Notions: Tapestry needle, measuring tape, scissors, stitch markers, waste yarn, 2 3/4” buttons
Pattern Notes
Begin at shoulder tops, using a provisional Cast on. You will work your way down the back, to just at the underarms, adding armhole shaping along the way. Stitches are placed on hold while placing the shoulder stitches back on the needles, leaving the center back sts on hold. After armhole shaping is worked the fronts and backs are joined and piece is worked in the round to the hem.

Using larger 29”/73.5 cm long circular needle, with waste yarn and Provisional CO, CO 68 (70, 76, 76, 78, 78, 80, 86) sts.
(RS): Change to MC and begin working in stripe pattern until piece measures 6 (6, 6.5, 7, 7, 7.5, 7.5, 7.5, 8)”/ 15.0 (15.0, 16.5, 18.0, 18.0, 19.0, 19.0, 19.0, 20.5) cm from CO edge, ending with a WS row.
Shape Armholes
Increase 1 st each side this row and then every other row 1 (1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2) time(s) as follows:
Kf/b, knit to last st, kf/b. (2 sts increased)
Purl.
CO 1 (1, 1, 2, 4, 4, 4, 6) sts, work to end, CO 1 (1, 1, 2, 4, 4, 4, 6) sts.
Purl.
CO 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 6, 6) sts, work to end, CO 2( 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 6, 6) sts.
Work even for 1 row.
Break yarn and transfer sts to waste yarn.
Fronts
With RS facing, carefully remove Provisional CO and place first and last 20 (20, 21, 21, 21, 21, 21, 24)sts on larger 29”/73.5 cm circular needle for front. Transfer remaining 28 (30, 34, 34, 36, 36, 38, 38) sts to waste yarn.
(RS): Work both sides at the same time in striped pattern. Work in St st for 3”/7.5 cm.
Shape Neck
(RS): Inc 1 st each side this row, then every other row, one time as follows: Kf/b, knit to last st, kf/b.
Purl.
CO 5 (5, 5, 6, 7, 7, 6, 8) sts each side.
Purl.
CO 3 (3, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6) sts each side.
Purl.
Work even in Stripe Pattern until fronts measure 6 (6, 6.5, 7, 7, 7.5, 7.5, 7.5, 8)”/ 15.0 (15.0, 16.5, 18.0, 18.0, 19.0, 19.0, 19.0. 20.5) cm from the top of the shoulder, ending with a WS row, work armhole shaping as for the back.
Body
Join the back to the fronts.
With RS facing, transfer back sts, pm. them right front sts, to left hand end of circular needles. From right to left, with RS facing: left front, back, right front.
Using yarn attached to left front, work across left front, CO 1 st, pm (this is your BOR m), CO 1 St, knit 94 sts, CO 1 st, sm, Co 1 st, k44 right front sts, co 6 sts. Join to work in the rnd.
Continue working in stripe pattern.
Cut yarn, move sts to EOR M, and knit for 2”/ 5.0 cm.
Dec. Rnd: *Sm, k2tog, knit to 2 sts before m, ssk; rep from * once. (4 sts decreased)
Knit for 2”/ 5.0 cm.
Work decrease round.
Knit until piece measures 6”/15.0 cm from underarm.
Inc. Rnd: *Sm, k1, m1L, knit to 1 st before m, m1L; rep from * once. (4 sts increased)
Knit until piece measures 8”/ 20.5 cm from underarm. Work Inc. Rnd.
Work until piece measures 10” from underarm.
Work Inc Rnd.
Knit until piece measures 12(12, 13, 14, 15, 15, 16, 17)” / 30.5 (30.5, 33.0, 35.5, 38.0, 38.0, 40.5, 43.0) cm from underarm.
With MC knit 1 rnd. Work k2, p2 rib for 2”/ 5.0 cm.
Bind off in pattern.
Sleeves
With MC and larger size 16”/40.5 cm circulars, pick up and knit 62 (62, 66, 68, 70, 72, 76, 80) sts, pmA.
K21 (21, 22, 23, 23, 24, 25, 27) sts, pmB, k10 (10, 11, 11, 12, 12, 13, 13) sts, pm, k10 (10, 11, 11, 12, 12, 13, 13) sts, pmB, k21 (21, 22, 23, 23, 24, 25, 27) sts, place EOR m.
Knit 2 rnds.
Knit to 2nd marker B, sm, w&t, purl to 1st mB, sm w&t.
Work to wrapped st of row before last row worked, work wrapped st, work 1st w&t. Repeat last row until you reach the A marker.
Change to working in the rnd and hide any remaining wraps as you come to them and removing all the markers except for marker A, which is your BOR m.
Work until piece measures 1.5 (1.5, 2, 2, 2.5, 2.5, 3, 3)”/ 4.0 ( 4.0, 5.0, 5.0, 6.5, 6.5, 7.5, 7.5) cm from underarm. Change to smaller needles and MC and work k2, p2 rib for 1”/2.5 cm.
Bind off in rib pattern.
Buttonband
With smaller needles and MC, start at center of left front edge and pick up and knit 2 sts for every 3 rows along left side. Work for 11 rows in St st. Bind off all sts.
Pick up and knit 2 sts for every 3 rows along right front edge starting at the top right edge. Work for 5 rows in St st.
Buttonholes: K4, yo, k2tog, k4, yo, k2tog, k4.
Knit 6 rows in St st. Bind off all sts.
Tack bottoms down to front of collar.
Neckband
Transfer the back neck sts from waste yarn to a spare needle. With smaller circulars, and MC, pick up and knit 2 sts for every 3 rows starting at the top edge of right button band, knit across back neck sts, then pick up and knit 2 sts for every 3 rows to top edge of left button band, making sure you have a multiple of 4. Work in k2, p2 rib for 3 rows. Bind off in rib pattern.
Finishing
Weave in all ends. Wash and block to measurements.
Sew buttons opposite button holes on left front edge.
