What does ‘puk’ refer to in the Garter Tab section? Thanks
Having made a number of lace shawls, I figure the puk means “pick up and knit” followed by the number of stitches to pick up. You start with a small garter stitch square (3 sts x 4 rows = 2 garter ridges) – after knitting across to the end of the 4th row, you turn the square and pick up and knit the required number of stitches (2) from the short side – once stitch in each garter ridge. You now have 5 stitches on your needle. You then turn the square a bit again, and pick up and knit 3 stitches (one stitch in each of your original cast on stitches). You now have 8 stitches on your needle. This forms the base for the remainder of the shawl. The little square is no longer a square, but becomes the centre top section of your shawl, at the base of the back of your neck. Hope this helps. Sometimes you just have to do it to “see” it!
