This is a sideways shawl that was inspired by the feeling of the warmth of the sun as you lift your head up to the sky. This bold, bright, beautiful skein of Knit Picks Stroll Tonal yarn has tonal coloring that can be found in any morning sunrise. The shawl is slender crescent shape with a border of sunshine rays.
Skill Level: Easy
Size: 55” wide x 16” deep (relaxed)
Size of your shawl will vary depending on your yarn yardage.
Gauge: 13 sts and 16 rows = 2”.
Gauge is not necessarily crucial, it is more important to work the three sections (increase, even and decrease) in approximate 33% increments, requiring a yarn scale, and working the shawl according to your own yarn skein’s yardage.
Material
Yarn:
Knit Picks Stroll Tonal (75% Merino/25% Nylon(Polyamide); 462 yards [422.5meters]/100 grams): Golden Glow, 1 skein
Needles: US size 5 (3.75 mm): straight or circular needles.
Notions: 2 stitch markers; tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Pattern Notes
This shawl is worked sideways. It is increased over the first 33% of the skein, worked evenly over the next 33%, and then decreased the rest of the yarn’s weight. This construction allows the shawl to be knit using the entire skein of yarn.
The stitch counts are broken up into three sections separated by stitch markers.
The first 4-stitch section will always be 4 stitches.
The increase section will increase 1 stitch every other row, so by the end of the 8 row repeat, that section will have increased 4 stitches.
The decrease section will decrease 1 stitch every other row, so by the end of the 8 row repeat, that section will have decreased 4 stitches. (You will work the decrease section until you have 2 stitches remaining in the decreasing section that you started with prior to increasing.)
The stitch counts of the lace section increase and then decrease. Those counts can be found at the end of each row in the written instructions, and alongside the chart, on the left, in the yellow highlighted column.
Please remember, you need to repeat the sections according to your own yarn skein yardage. If you have 462 yards or more, and have swatched, then by all means, follow my number of repeats. For the increase/even/decrease sections, I did 17/12/17 repeats.

Finishing
Knit 2 rows.
BO, weave in ends and block.
Chart Notes

Chart Instructions
CO 20.
Knit 1 row.
Set-up Row: K14, pm, k2, pm, k4 – 20.
Start working from the chart repeating Rows 1-8 increasing every other row until you have used close to 33% of your yarn.
Once you have ENDED INCREASING ON ROW 8, continue in pattern working EVEN, no longer doing the KFB increases, knit to marker making no increase.
Work even until you have used the next approximate 33% of your yarn. Stop working even when you have used close to 66% of your total yarn weight before you started.
Once you have ENDED WORKING EVEN ON ROW 8, start decreasing.
Continue in pattern WITH THE DECREASE CHART BELOW working Rows 1-8, decreasing every other row.
Once you have successfully decreased back to the original 20 stitches, follow finishing instructions.

Are there any corrections to this pattern??
Confused. Border Pattern stitch count seems to be off by one stitch on all the even # rows. It decreases by one instead of staying the same and when I try the chart the stitch count is off as well. This pattern looks really easy so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. Thank you!!
Have you been able to find where you are missing a stitch? Let us know if you are still off, we are not seeing a problem, so we’ll try to help if we can!
