Raspberry Cream Mitts

These mitts are worked flat and then seamed, leaving a gap for the thumb. This process makes them an easy flat knit for beginners and seasoned pros alike.

Skill Level: Intermediate 

Size: Finished arm circumference = 8“ (20 cm); finished length = 10” (25 cm)

Gauge: 29 sts and 38 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking; 32 sts = 4” [10 cm] in cables after wet blocking 

Materials

Yarn:

Lace Weight Yarn Cascade 220 Fingering (100% peruvian highland wool; 273 yards [250 meters]/50 grams): #7802 Cerise (1 skein)
Needles: US size 3 (3.25 mm) straight needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: Removable stitch markers

Abbreviations

C2FP: Cable 2 forwards and purl: sl1 st onto cable needle at front of work, p1, k1 from cable needle.
C2BP: Cable 2 backwards and purl: sl1 st onto cable needle at back of work, k1, p1 from cable needle.
C2B (WS): Sl 1 st onto cable needle at back of work, p1, p1 from cable needle.
M1r: Pick up yarn strand between sts from back to front, k through front.

Cast on 62 sts.
Row 1 (WS): Sl1, k1, p1, *k2, p1; rep to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 2 (RS): Sl1, p1, *C2FP, C2BP, p2; rep to last 6 sts, C2FP, C2BP, p1, k1.
Row 3: Sl1, k2, *C2B, k4; rep to last 5 sts, C2B, k3.
Row 4: Sl1, p1, *C2BP, C2FP, p2; rep from * to last 6 sts, C2BP, C2FP, p1, k1.
Rep rows 1-4 twice more, then rows 1-3 once more.

Block mitts to measurements given. Seam from cuff towards palm for 6½“, leave 2½“ gap for thumb, seam last 1”.
