Finishing
Break yarn, leaving a long tail, and thread this through the remaining sts, pulling tight to fasten.
Weave in the ends and block gently.
Make pompom (optional)
Approximately 60 yards of yarn is used for the pompom.
I usually follow this method of making pompoms if you don’t have a pompom maker http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Pom-Pom.
Cut two cardboard rounds. Cut a small round hole in the middle of them and place them together. Wrap yarn around the circles until fully covered.
The more the circles are covered, the fuller the pompom will be.
Using sharp scissors, cut yarn between the edges of the two circles. Be careful not to pull any of the cut strands.
Gently open the card circles and draw a piece of thread between the two circles and tie tightly round the stitches that meet in the centre hole. Leave sufficiently long ends of thread to be attached on the hat. Remove card circles.
