Onesies for All!

Skill Level: Intermediate 

Sizes: Newborn (3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 18 months) to fit chest size 15 (16, 17, 18, 19, 20)”

Gauge: 20 sts and 28 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Stockinette Stitch

Materials

Yarn: Big Bad Wool Weepaca (50% fine washable merino, 50% baby alpaca; 95 yards [86 meters]/50 grams): Boy: Teal (MC, (2 (2, 2, 2, 3, 3) skeins), Mustard (CC, 1 skein); Girl: Coral (MC, (2 (2, 2, 2, 3, 3) skeins), Lilac (CC, 1 skein); Striped: Water (MC, (2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2) skeins), Stop (CC, (2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2) skeins)
Needles: US size 6 (4.0 mm) 16” circular needles
Notions: Tapestry needle, measuring tape, scissors, stitch marker, snap tape

Abbreviations

kf/b: knit in front and back of the stitch
pf/b: purl in front and back of the stitch
pm: place marker
sm: slip marker
ssk: slip slip knit

Pattern

With MC, cast on 64 (64, 72, 76, 80, 84) sts, pm and join to work in the rnd, being careful not to twist your sts.
Knit 16 (16, 18, 20, 20, 22) sleeve sts, pm, k16 (16, 18, 18, 20, 20) back sts, pm, k16 (16, 18, 20, 20, 22) sleeve sts, pm, k16 (16, 18, 18, 20, 20) front sts.
Knit 1 rnd.
Increase Rnd: Kf/b, *knit to 1 st before m, kf/b, sm, kf/b; rep rom * until 1 st before end, kf/b. (8 sts increased)
Knit 1 rnd.
Repeat last 2 rnds 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6) more times.

Create Shoulders

Remove all st markers as you come to them (except for the SOR m).
Bind off 26 (26, 30, 32, 34, 46) sleeve sts, knit across 26 (26, 30, 30, 34, 34) back sts, bind off 26 (26, 30, 32, 34, 46) sleeve sts, remove m, using the backwards loop cast-on, CO 5 (7, 6, 7, 7, 8) sts, pm, CO 6 (7, 6, 8, 7, 8) sts, knit across 26 (26, 30, 30, 34, 34) front sts, using the backwards loop method, CO 5 (7, 6, 7, 7, 8) sts, pm, CO 6 (7, 6, 8, 7, 8) sts.
Knit until piece 2 (2.5, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4)” from underarm.
Inc. Rnd: *K4, kf/b; rep from * to end of rnd. (90 (96, 102, 108, 114, 120) sts)
Knit until underarm measures 6.5 (6.5, 7, 8, 8.5, 9)”.
Split to work back and front separately for leg shaping.

Front

Bind off 10 (10, 12, 14, 14, 16) sts, knit to end.
Bind off 10 (10, 12, 14, 14, 16) sts, purl to end.
Knit.
Purl.
Dec Row: SSK, knit to last 2 sts, k2tog. (2 sts decreased)
Purl.
Knit.
Purl.
Work decrease row.
Work in St st for 5 rows.
Bind off all sts.

Back

Bind off 8 (8, 8, 8, 10, 10) sts, knit to end.
Bind off 8 (8, 8, 8, 10, 10 ) sts, purl to end.
Dec. Row: Ssk, knit to last 2 sts, k2tog.
Purl.
Repeat last 2 rows until there are 18 sts remaining.
Work in St st for 5 rows.
Bind off all sts. 

Arm Edging

With CC, pick up 2 sts for ever 3 sts around armhole. Bind off all sts. 

Neck

With CC, pick up sts along neck edging (1 st for every neck st). Bind off all sts. 

Legs (except Girls version)

With CC, pick up 2 sts for every 3 sts around legs. Bind off all sts.

Legs (Girl Version)

With CC, pick up 2 sts for every 3 sts around leg opening.
*Pf/b; rep from * across the row.
Knit.
Purl.
Bind off all sts knit-wise. 

Tie Embellishment

Co 10 sts.
Knit in St st for 2”.
Dec Row: Ssk, k6, k2tog.
Work in St st for 3 rows.
Dec. Row: Ssk, k4, k2tog.
Purl.
Dec. Row: Ssk, k2, k2tog.
P2tog, p2tog.
Bind off all sts.
Using photographs as a guide, whipstich tie to the front of onesie. 

Necklace (Make 6 “Bobbles”)

Using a long-tail cast-on, CO 4 sts.
Row 1: Knit.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: Knit, without turning, pass the last 3 sts over the 1st st on the needle, leaving a long tail, cut yarn and pull through the last st. Using photograph as a guide, sew bobble together as a “pearl” and then sew on to the front of the onesie. 

Stripe Option

Rows 1 and 2: Work in MC.
Rows 3 and 4: Work in CC.
Repeat those four rows for pattern. 

Finishing

Weave in all ends. Wash and block as desired. Sew snap tape on opposite sides of bottom flaps. yarn ball
