A Note from the Editor

Ever since I was little, fall has been my favorite season. Living in the Midwest, I’ve learned this is an unfortunate season to like—fall seems to leave as quickly as it arrives, fading into winter just as November rears its head. But maybe that’s part of what makes it beautiful. That brief flash of red and golden leaves, coloring our world for just four short weeks — it heightens the intensity, making each moment more important than the last. With this in mind, I pause and take everything in: the sound of leaves crunching as my husband and I hike through our local forest preserve, the carving of pumpkins, the sweet-and-salty taste of a peanut-sprinkled caramel apple.

It’s all the little things that work together to make the season so special. It may sound strange, but that’s how I feel whenever I knit. Each item I make serves a purpose, whether it’s to protect a family member from the cold, or to cheer up a friend going through a rough time. That’s why I can’t wait to dive into the patterns featured in this issue. Each one is just waiting for you to make it! For Halloween celebrations, check out the Jacko Lantern Banner and Lil’ Monster Vest. For basic fall wearables, indulge yourself with the Autumn Blooms Socks and the British Cathedral Beret. No matter which pattern you start first, remember to pause and enjoy the process. Time always seems to go too fast.

Happy knitting,

I always dreaded working on projects such as socks, gloves, doilies or any other project where I had to work in the round on double pointed needles. Most of the time, I would lose a needle or stitches would drop from the other end. Using one circular needle was not an option as the cord… Read More
