Firefighter Set KAL: The Final Patterns

Don’t forget about the gauge:

16 sts and 28 rows= 4” [10 cm] in St st on larger needles (for clothing pieces)

12 sts and 20 rnds = 4” [10 cm] in St st in the round on smaller needles (for toy components)

Dog Pattern

Dalmatian

With smallest dpn and CC2, CO 6 sts, leaving a 6” long tail, pm and join to work in the rnd.

Rnd 1: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 2: *Kf&b; rep from * to end of rnd – 12 sts.

Rnd 3: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 4: *Kf&b; rep from * to end of rnd – 24 sts.

Rnd 5-6: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 7: *K2, kf&b; rep from * to end of rnd – 32 sts.

Rnd 8: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 9: *K1, kf&b; rep from * to end of rnd – 48 sts.

Rnds 10-11: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 12: K7, k2 sts on to scrap yarn, move the 2 sts back to LH needle and knit to end of rnd.

Rnd 13: K26, k4 sts on to scrap yarn, move back to left hand needle, k8, k4 sts to scrap yarn, move back to left hand needle and knit to end of rnd.

Rnds 14-30: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 31: K26, k4 sts on to scrap yarn, move back to left hand needle, k8, k4 sts to scrap yarn, move back to left hand needle and knit to end of rnd.

Rnds 32-33: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 34: *K1, k2tog, rep from * to end of rnd – 32 sts.

Rnd 35: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 36: *K2, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd – 24 sts.

Rnd 37: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 38: K2, k2tog, k2tog, k2, (k2tog) 8 times – 14 sts.

Rnds 39-42: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 43: *Kf&b; rep from * to end of rnd – 28 sts.

Rnd 44: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 45: *K1, kf&b; rep from * to end of rnd – 42 sts.

Rnds 46-50: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 51: (K1, k2tog) 6 times, (k4, k2tog) 4 times – 32 sts.

Rnd 52: *K2, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd – 24 sts.

Rnds 53-54: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 55: *K1, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd – 16 sts.

Rnd 56: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 57: *K2tog; rep from * across rnd – 8 sts.

Cut yarn, finish stuffing, pull yarn tightly through remaining sts and stitch closed. Using the 6” long CO tail, whipstitch closed, adding any stuffing before pulling tight.

 

Ears (make 2)

Using CC5 and photographs as a guide, pick up and knit 4 sts on the side of the face at the highest point you would like for your ears.

Row 1: Knit all sts across.

Row 2: Purl all sts across.

Row 3: Kf&b, k2, kf&b – 6 sts.

Row 4: Purl all sts across.

Row 5: Knit all sts across.

Row 6: Purl all sts across.

Row 7: K2tog, k2 ssk – 4 sts.
Row 8: (P2tog) twice – 2 sts.

Row 9: K2tog.

Cut yarn, and pull through. Weave in ends.

 

Bobble Nose

Bobble Nose

With CC5 and smallest dpn, CO 1 st,

(Kf&b) into the 1 st 4 times – 5 sts.

Purl all sts across.

Knit all sts across.

Pass last 4 sts over the first st.

Cut yarn, leaving a 6” long tail and pull closed. Sew together the ends, and sew the nose onto the face of the dog, using photographs as a guide for placement.

 

Legs (make 4)

Carefully removing waste yarn from the bottom side of the dog, place the live sts onto smaller dpn. Using CC2, knit 4 sts, pick up and knit 1 st, knit 4 sts, pick up and knit 1 st, pm and join to work in the rnd – 10 sts.

Rnds 1-6: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 7: With CC5, *k1, kf&b; rep from * to end of rnd – 15 sts.

Rnds 8-9: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 10: *K1, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd – 10 sts.

Rnd 11: *K2tog; rep from * to end of rnd – 5 sts.

Cut yarn, leaving a 6” long tail, lightly stuff leg as desired. Pull yarn tightly through remaining sts. Weave in ends and cut yarn.

 

Tail

Carefully removing waste yarn from top sts of the dog, put the live 4 sts on to smaller dpn. Using CC2, knit 2 sts, pick up 1 st, knit 2 sts, pick up and knit 1 st, pm and join to work in the rnd – 6 sts.

Knit for 1”.

Switch to CC5, *K1, k2tog; rep from * once more –  4 sts.

Next Rnd: K2tog –  2 sts.

Cut yarn and pull tight. Weave in end.

 

Collar

With MC, CO 4 sts.

Work in I-cord for 3”.

Cut yarn, leaving a 6” and pull through rem sts.

Wrap collar around Dog’s neck and sew closed.

 

Using CC5 and duplicate st, use photographs as a guide to stitch eyes and mouth. Using 2 straight sts for each “dot” use photographs as a guide and place dots over the body of dog as desired. You can use as many or as few spots as you would like!

Hose

With CC5, CO 6 sts.

Work in I-cord for 16”.

Switch to CC4, pm and begin to work in the rnd.

Rnd 1: *K1, Kf&b; rep from * to end of rnd –  11 sts.

Rnd 2: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 3: *Kf&b; rep from * to end of rnd –  22 sts.

Rnd 4- 10: Knit all sts around.

Lightly stuff hose.

Rnd 11: *K2tog; rep from * to end of rnd –  11 sts.

Rnd 12: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 13: K1, *k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd –  6 sts.

Rnd 14: *K2tog; rep from * to end of rnd –  3 sts.

 

Switch to CC6.

Rnd 15: Work in I-cord for 1½”.

Cut yarn and pull tightly to close.

 

Axe

Handle

With CC3 and dpn, CO 9 sts.

Rnd 1: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 2: *K1, M1, k1, M1, k1; rep from * twice more –  13 sts.

Rnd 3: *K1, M1, k3, M1, k1; rep from * twice more –  17 sts.

Rnd 4: Purl all sts around.

Knit until piece measures 5” from Purl row.

Rnd 5: Purl all sts around.

Rnd 6: *K1, k2tog, k3, k2tog, k1; rep from * twice more –  13 sts.

Rnd 7: *K1, k2tog, k2tog, k1; rep from * twice more –  9 sts.

Rnd 8: Knit all sts around.

Cut yarn leaving a long tail. Stuff handle to desired firmness. Pull yarn through remaining sts and pull tight to close

 

Blade

With CC4, CO 8 sts evenly onto 2 dpn.

Rnds 1-3: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 4: *K1, kf&b, k1, kf&b; rep from * once more – 12 sts.

Rnd 5: Knit all sts around.

Rnd 6: *K1, kf&b; rep from * across rnd – 24 sts.

Rnds 7-20: Knit all sts around.

Cut yarn leaving a 16” tail. Stuff blade portion to desired firmness.

Work kitchener stitch across remaining sts, pull tight and close.

Sew blade to top of handle, using photos as a guide.
